@rg252 @RobotHimejoshi @RebecTV Even if that’s his interpretation. The episode betrays his intent because the Doctor says categorically he saw the other outcome. Also Moffat’s main reason for bringing them back, at least to me, seems so the show could move on from the last of the time lords arc.

@DimensionsInJen @RobotHimejoshi @RebecTV Except Moffat said part of his reason for writing the episode is that he couldn't see the Doctor killing the Time Lords and the Daleks. We know he loves a bootstrap paradox & if he was writing the episode from the belief the Doctor never did it, then he didn't change his history.

Ok I think I've put my finger on one of my biggest pet peeves. When writers feel the need to drastically change canon for no good reason. 2005 Who had the Time War and Time Lords gone but that was a fresh start, a new page. The crazy changes in recent years feel more desperate

@ClaraEchoes True. Also not just that but the 50th leaves it ambiguous suggesting the Doctor did once do it and has changed it. So RTD1 can be watched as “he did it” timeline and “he didn’t do it” timeline. “The alternative is burning. I’ve seen that. And I never want to see it again”.

did y’all not pay attention to dotd… war literally forgets 9 still goes through the same arc the only thing that is changed is that gallifrey is actually saved in the end which 9 would’ve wanted too i don’t get y’all…

@RobotHimejoshi @RebecTV I'm not sure i agree with DotD- it very much undercut the character arc of the Doctor post Time War which was built around something he now didn't do. It makes the 9th & 10th Doctors arcs weaker.

@acequeenkingpin @anniightingale Gallifrey at that time saw the Doctor as a war hero due to him saving the Time Lords. This is shown in Hell Bent.

@anniightingale @DimensionsInJen It was literally a deus ex time lord, and tbh a poor one given that gallifrey previous to it regards the doctor as a threat, and after it, ALSO regards the doctor as a threat. Literally just written in to explain why 12 can exist, since war stole the the 9th regen.

retconing the doctor using the moment to destroy gallifrey to end the time war did way more damage to the doctor's character and lore than the timeless child arc ever could have done (because it didn't at all) no amount of crying will change it

@MonstrousA46415 For me the framework of last of the time lords 2 makes the show feel regressive in nature and tarnishes every story it’s in with its repeated backward arc.

@MonstrousA46415 I don’t think that’s true or fair. I do think the show has massively dipped in quality the last six years. I still enjoy 1963-2018 on rewatches. Not grown out of it at all.

I think the reason those who haven’t cared for RTD2 are feeling more fatigue with the show than ever is because it’s been two eras in a row where a lot of the fanbase just doesn’t like the era. It is tiring for people to not enjoy their favourite tv show for so long.

@DimensionsInJen I liked Chibnail. Moffat's era was the fatiguing one, and that lasted FOREVER, so, y'know what, I take your point, it WAS like that at the time. it's probably like that now too.

@IanDavies56 Well handling of how a story treats its topics is huge. The issue with The Star Beast for me is that it incorporated the trans story clumsily. The issue isn’t that it incorporated a trans story. Which is a writing issue and crying woke is silly.

@DimensionsInJen RTD ruined DW in the last 2 seasons, just as he did with Torchwood . Writing to a Minority group culture and then wondering why the Majority don't buy into it. The Doctor had a core look and feel for 60 years as soon as they moved away from that formula the show bombed ..woke

@ShalkaFanNo1 To me the issues with The Giggle are present as much in The Power of the Doctor. I honestly don’t see the difference in handling. Ultimately people may overall prefer one over the other due to the era packages they’re wrapped in.

@ShalkaFanNo1 Naturally there’ll be people who loved the previous era and don’t like this one. People who love this era and disliked the previous one. I’m just thinking that’s why the general feeling is so low is because of how much time the show has been like this for many.

@SpyMast73050981 It was certainly controversial, but definitely not the same. There were always more general enjoyers of 12’s era. That era lost casual viewers rather than fans.

@TheDimmeh That’s not to say the music of other eras is bad. It’s just mostly not for me. I also don’t think Gold’s music would work in any other era. Gold’s music works with what RTD and Moffat were writing. Slap it over the classic series and it doesn’t work at all.

@TheDimmeh While I’m not huge on his RTD2 stuff. Murray Gold’s Series 1-10 stuff is one of the only times I like music in Doctor Who. It’s the only time they got it 100% bang on for me.

@erumejimim The question makes the Doctor important later in life after their adventures gave them a reputation. A lot of 11 / 12 stuff is about how they have a rep in the universe. Timeless Child makes the Doctor significant too early. Almost contriving a reason as to why they broke away.

the thing i don't understand, if people are mad that the timeless child "makes doctor the chosen one", then why is no one talking about the oldest question in the universe that must never be answered being Doctor Who? what was that about?
