When Charles de Gaulle led France, he treated public money as something untouchable.
At the Élysée Palace, there was a strict rule for him: no personal expense could ever be paid for by the state.
His wife, Yvonne, kept a small notebook in which she meticulously recorded all family expenses — from food and electricity to clothing and even soap.
At the end of each month, she would send a check to the state treasury, reimbursing every last cent.
Once, an accountant remarked that this was not really necessary.
She calmly replied:
“Everything that is not public is personal.
And for personal matters, we pay ourselves.”
This principle applied without exception.
Their children and grandchildren were not allowed to use official cars for private matters.
De Gaulle himself refused any privileges of office: he paid his own bills at the palace — even for the smallest things, such as soap or family meals.
Moreover, he did not use his presidential salary, living only on his military pension.
After his death, there was no wealth or luxury left behind — only a modest house in Colombey-les-Deux-Églises, purchased before the war.
It is said that he would sometimes personally send money to the treasury if he suspected that any personal expense might have accidentally been covered by the state budget.
This was not a formality.
It was a principle.
✨ An example of true integrity, honor, and responsibility in public service.

This is a very low bar but a fascinating mental exercise.

Hundreds of men died in hurricanes building that bridge’s predecessor at the turn of the century. It was a personal passion project for billionaire Henry Flagler. Modern Florida owes much of its existence to him, his projects were so integral to the state that they tried to name Miami after him. He turned it down, picking “Miami” (the Indian word for river) instead. His efforts were so integral to the previously inaccessible state that they granted him 10 MILLION acres in exchange for the railway.
Seeing such greatness makes me sad. If we tried this today we would achieve nothing except wasting 5 billion dollars enriching politicians and consultants.

Bro flexing the most basic tax loophole that has been closed for years.
Get a new tax lawyer before the tax bills (and tax fraud charges) come in lmfao.
Andrew Tate@Cobratate
I make hundreds of millions of dollars but pay 0% tax because all of my companies have to pay for the Andrew Tate IP based in the Cayman Islands. MY companies must pay to use MY brand and I keep hundreds of Ms tax free. Unfortunately I don’t contribute to corrupt western governments bullshit wars and migrant payouts and buy Jets instead.

I’d rather hangout with a NYC nepo baby with a trust fund or go fishing with a redneck who rants about how the moon landing was fake than mingle with SF striver types. One of the most insufferable groups of people on earth.

Minecraft was the greatest CS education ever made. And nobody planned it that way.
At 12 I was obsessed. Wanted my own servers. So I learned Bukkit, Java plugins, basic networking, Linux deployment. Built worlds that only exist in my mind but still feel completely real.
I broke wifi routers and fixed them. Broke Windows configs and fixed them.
Tinkering, breaking stuff, and fixing it later is how we learn stuff best when we are kids.
What is the Minecraft for the new generation?

I had a 200k profit month Nov 2024 and it felt nothing like this lol
It was actually somewhat disappointing to be honest
Because you think it’s going to change your life and then you realize maybe you might get a nicer car, go out to eat more, buy some clothes, but nothing *really* changes
For a long time I wanted an Audi r8, and then when I had more than enough to do it, it just became entirely uninteresting to me.
It’s a sobering moment that makes you realize that 1. you’d need to make a whole lot more to actually change your lifestyle and 2. Money really doesn’t matter that much, it’s more the impact you have on others.
Kind of cliche but your balls, your word and your people are really all you have in this world
But does that mean you should take a brokie’s “money isn’t everything” advice? fuck no, gaining the anecdotal wisdom through experience is what makes it worth it in the first place.
After a certain point you don’t even wanna check boxes off for materialistic stuff, you just wanna be the guy that isn’t impressed by anything just to feel something
That’s why I’m reverting the Yoder name back to Amish one day

bro just imagine how that first $200k month will feel..

Baja California is 1,900 miles of the most pristine coastline imaginable. If it were an extension of present day California, it’d be Malibu + Newport + Del Mar for 2,000 straight miles. Hard to fathom more valuable land anywhere on Earth.
