One big US soccer thought: our youth development has to get more affordable. One of my kids plays travel. It’s at least $5k a year & this isn’t even super high end. We can afford it, thankfully, lots can’t. Youth sports costs in the US are out of control, soccer more than most.

@ClayTravis Clubs cost money there is no way around it field rental tournament fee coach pay etc not every club is a travel club you can get on a decent club with good coaches and play local games 500 to 700 bucks plus uniform

Kids benefit tremendously from youth sports. But we are pricing out a ton of kids and their families. Lots of our best talent doesn’t ever get developed or the advantages of playing team sports and learning how to win and lose for later in life. (End rant).

@BlackJackPartII @ClayTravis the academy system JUST got into higher end club developoment systems about 5 years ago and MLS NEXT is slowly filtering down to all clubs which wich should increase talent pool

US soccer success requires training AND the best athletes. Until soccer is a revenue sport in the US like football, basketball, baseball and to a lesser extent hockey the US will suck on the global stage. And the money won’t be there without the eyeballs so the US has a long way to go.

@ClayTravis This might be true but so is higher end travel baseball. Throw in lessons weight lifting and speed agility training and you’re well north of that soccer number you threw out.
