Great turnout at The Ecological Bootprint Conference in Munich regarding the nexus of the military and the environment. Together with Tetiana G. (NAS Ukraine), I co-organized a session on hydraulic warfare in Ukraine.

It was a pleasure to organize and participate in the panel "Talking about rivers in Ukraine: from lessons and reflections to action" last week at #CafeKyiv in Berlin. Many Ukrainian rivers were represented in this session. Thanks @KASonline & KIU (Viadrina European Uni).

@NAChristakis Thanks for the testimony, Prof. Christakis, as so many parts of it resonated with my experience there. I remember asking myself what I could even teach to those who have already experienced so much of the world. And yet, we´ll keep coming back, just as I am sure you will as well

The trip to Kyiv takes 12 hour overland from Warsaw, and it is everywhere marked by evidence of a country at war -- young people at arms, graveyards, bombed buildings. But it is worth it to see resilient Ukrainian students engaged in learning in a time of war. youtube.com/watch?v=XbqF5e…

No surprise, given that it comes from the biggest metaphysical mystifier of consensus in our time.

@ProfSteveFuller This reminds me how STS was meant to unsettle paradigms, not to become one by branding its acronym and attach it to a particular scholarly identity.

As a thinker becomes sociologically explicable, their intellectual significance diminishes, which requires others to reassert their distinctiveness. Unfortunately, sociologists themselves play both sides of this coin, and so there is no sociology of, say, Butler, Zizek, etc.

A useful way to think about something hard is to think about it in the style of another thinker, and then recalibrate your own thinking. This is why it's generally useful to understand different styles of thinking, which are about self-positioning in the line of thought.

A student in my End Times seminar today suggested that conventional violence is likely to decline in the long term, as 'human' becomes less associated with a specific biological form. Instead, violence will be aimed at the computer systems sustaining humanity.

I sometimes run across young people who think they're #original because they're ignorant of the past. That ignorance quickly falsifies their claims to originality. All true 'originals' have been very aware of the past -- especially of its unexplored potential.
