My dear Japanese friends. This is my rice cooker that I've had for 5 years. I use it... To make rice. I've heard recently that there's more that I could be doing with this. What else can I make with it? Also, is this a good one?

@spikelauncher @Cr7Godbrand You don't know me, child. Of course I tell women to find better men, even just this week. You, though, should be a better man and stop whining and blaming others.

@DwindleProof @Cr7Godbrand Simps like you are a key part of the problem. When women complain that men are useless and inferior, you don’t tell them to “find better men”, do you? No, you tell the men to man up and be better men. Women face almost zero accountability for being bad.

You can do all of this as a man for ten years straight, but the moment you forget to take out the trash few time, she will tell the world that she’s been mothering you and that you never did anything for her or the family. Only women, after twenty years of marriage, will tell the world that a man never did anything good for her in their 20 years of marriage.

@FiredUpCoug This is the Japanese equivalent of the Pringle (in the original) "once you pop you can't stop" implication of habit forming flavor (mostly from salt but umami flavors from protein breakdown are part too). My kid is 4 and loves this style of cracker (osembei - おせんべい 🍘)

@KintsugiJin @ScottK Guys like this don't want stuff going to the poor. They just hate to see God's church thriving and well managed. Their positions and actions would be different if they were really focused on the poor, so it's safe to ignore ore their disingenuous positions.

Dude has no idea what he’s talking about. I literally picked up a food order from the storehouse that was about 25 bags full and barely fit all in my SUV for one family where only three of the kids are baptized out of a family of 10. The poor are a major focus. Mom and dad aren’t even members. They don’t pay tithing. They barely attend church regularly. They’ve had electricity, car repair, and a host of other things paid for as they struggle to survive. They are dirt poor and yet the church does more than any state organization or other church would do in this situation. The church does this in wards around the world every day. I am happy money I’ve paid goes into the funds to pay for this, to build temples, and create a valuable nest egg for the church into the future because I want my descendants to have access and support from this church. If you don’t, that up to you. Give up all your money and be the change you seek. Nobody is preventing you from handing every last cent of yours directly to the poor. I’ll wait..

@KintsugiJin @stackerco So one car being sold because the corporation needs more put into the slush fund? Fascinating testimony. 🤓 As the Savior once said:

For those thinking this sounds bad, it really isn't. I've wasted years of my life cooperating with Job Corps people and it is hands down a fucking federal scam on the same level as fake daycare centers. You got these fucking job centers all over the place and not a single person hired. I worked with three different losers; an obese gay man, an obese woman, and an obese elderly woman - all of them incompetent. The biggest issue they have is just not wanting to work with YOU. You can call them, set up appointments, try to do anything and they'll talk to you like something is up - but holy shit, they'll ghost the shit out of you on the day of the meetup. The gay fat guy I got lucky with and this rotund piece of garbage took me to a fucking park and we walked around for 25 minutes. I asked "So, ideas on finding me work?" This mother fucker couldn't say anything, just talking about his hobbies like I gave a shit. It was basically a date. The fat old lady pissed me off the most. I took an Uber out where she wanted despite originally agreeing to meet me somewhere more convenient. I got out there, the bitch fucking ghosted me. I called repeatedly, I was furious. Called again on Monday, my number was blocked. These fucking people... I went up their offices, every one of them is a barely furnished rental building and the people inside don't even know what's going on. Just receptionists. The people who work there - aren't even there! I never trusted or worked with Job Corps ever again. Wrote them off as a scam service that I feel no sympathy for if they get shut down.

Trump's 2027 budget proposal fully eliminates Job Corps. Job Corps provides free education and vocational training to young Americans.

The story behind the New York Times’ 1903 claim that human flight was between one and ten million years away is even worse than it looks. Once you understand the backstory, you realize that the New York Times story is not really about flight at all but about how elites and credentialed “experts” mistake their own failures for the boundaries of possibility. The New York Times did not dismiss the possibility of powered flight at random. There was a very specific reason behind it. At the time, America’s most prominent scientific authority, Smithsonian Secretary Samuel Langley, had been showered with large amounts of taxpayer funding to build an aircraft, the Langley Aerodrome. Despite all the money, institutional backing, and elite prestige, Langley and his team could not get it to fly, culminating in a series of very public failures, the last on December 8, 1903. So when the New York Times declared that flight was millions of years away, what it was really saying was that if the most credentialed and well-funded “experts” cannot do it, then it cannot be done. A mere nine days later, the elites’ proclamation of impossibility lay in ruins. Two totally unknown bicycle mechanics from Ohio achieved the first powered flight using improvised parts, a few hundred dollars of their own money, and sheer persistence. The story of flight is, at its core, a story of the triumph of American individualism over elite credentialism. The fact that it was the New York Times that inadvertently delivered the proof is the most fitting conclusion imaginable.

“Soft power” is when foreigners get an all expenses paid trip to an American ivy that heartland kids could only dream of, and have such profound ingratitude towards their host that they skip out on a small tax bill from a full ride to Princeton and trash us in the NYT. Ok!

I’m noticing a lot of foreigners who seem to not understand why we’d risk hundreds of lives, spend millions of dollars, and sacrifice several aircraft to rescue one guy. And the reason they don’t understand is also the reason people can’t be made American by a piece of paper.

Oh boy. Today I learned we pay $750m a year for a State Department program called “EducationUSA” that operates in 175 countries to recruit foreigners to apply to American universities like Princeton where they then come here, get so much money in scholarships thrown at them that they owe some tax (in this article it’s $15k) which they decide to not pay back! Princeton tried to help the Chilean guy in the article by loaning him money to pay his tax bill but rather than pay it back he just moved to another country and is now whining in the New York Times about it! Enjoy that while you file your taxes this year! Yes this was a spot at Princeton that your kid from Iowa didn’t get.

@FiredUpCoug Been to dozens of cities. Japa ese greatly favor Chinese and you'll find edited and unedited Chinese. You'll find plenty of (less spicy) Korean and some great Thai, but those fall off in frequency. A Chinese place near our last hotel in Yokohama proved really useful.

Since it's been a month of Sundays since I've posted EDC for the boys, I'll put this on main as well. Moving clockwise from the upper-left: Pepper spray (Fox Labs Five-point-Three.) Jericho 941 (Israeli police trade-in purchased surplus in 9mm. Holster: kydex (no name brand, I made this one myself.) Emergency medical kit I keep in my back-left pocket for treating serious wounds, including gunshot wounds. Wallet, microfiber cloth for my glasses. Knives; Gerber Applegate-Fairbairin Combat Folder, CKRT M21-10KSF, Stanley folding utility knife. 6 foot long Stanley pocket tape measure. Keys, guarded by mini utility knife, plastic M1911 and Alice Margatroid. Samsung Galaxy S-20 phone. Blackhawk belt magazine pouch with two Mec-Gar magazines, each with 17 rounds of 147 grain 9mm FMJ (full metal jacket.) Streamlight Protac 1L-1AA flashlight (can take normal or lithium battery.) Gun belt not pictured; 5-11 brand ("tactical series" nylon weave belt with kydex stiffening insert.) I'll probably upgrade to a full-sized CKRT M21 so I've got something suited for utility and "dynamic social encounters" both.
