@Hantao @SinjinMAYG The worst part is many of these projects were flagged at launch as smoke and mirrors. I’ll never forget that ‘Teddies’ product that raised like 10000 sol at pre sale and founder quit day 1 due to ‘mental health stress’ because of successful mint.

The reality is, you could see that gaming was struggling years ago when a lot of people got funding and released an indie game or pure web2 clone But the problem was that those projects sucked so much out, it made it harder for the 10 teams left in the space

Chat GPT is incredibly good at following directions even compared to the other excellent models out there, but... Image generation lags behind. Despite generating good images, ask for any changes and it really struggles to follow directions as well as it does for text.

@0xsachi Yes, was literally just talking about this not an hour ago. The pace of innovation is insane. Luckily, there are many good AI tools that can easily build you a daily newsletter or summarize new releases by the big players etc.

Anyone else feel overwhelmed by the exponential increase in innovation in AI? How do people catch up with everything?

@andrewchen Nobody wants contrarian founders. I think your comment is accurate - VCs want founders that present things differently than they've heard elsewhere *while still* fitting within the generally accepted narrative.

@0xsachi This is unironically a safety feature - if you answer yes they refer you to get help from a suicide hotline or something. It's just a bit extreme as a response to being in a bad mood.

@dieworkwear Certain cuisines call for expensive ingredients, but overall I have to agree with you. Also, a Vietnamese restaurant has to pay the same rent as an Italian one.

My woke opinion is that some cuisines, including Vietnamese, are grossly underpriced partly because of racism. Certain cuisines, such as Japanese and Italian, are expensive bc they're part of "high culture." But Vietnamese food requires a ton of labor and tastes just as good.

Industry direction: The gaming industry is very, very mature, at this point. Everything we’re seeing seems like a 2-5% improvement on the previous version of that same thing with little to no risk being taken by game studios. AAA game development funded by VCs is fully dead. At the same time, technology today makes it easier than ever for anyone to build a game even as a solo developer with little to no experience. Thus ironically there’s never been a better time to build a game if you have an awesome idea and the will to see it through. The “friendslop” revolution is a prime example of that. I think a lot of the games that were previously built on Roblox or within Fortnite can be standalone games with your game engine of choice and some vibe coding - possibly unlocking larger audiences.

Sharing my thoughts on GDC 2026 which felt weirdly positive and negative simultaneously. Two main points focused on AI and general industry direction. AI: If the polls of game devs on AI usage shared daily on LinkedIn are to be believed then AI usage is somewhere between 0% and 100%. Jokes aside, it does seem like everyone is using it in some capacity, although many are likely understating their AI usage out of fear of backlash from game audiences (deservedly or not).
