A big challenge USATF faces is that they can’t assume the top 3 misled runners would have been top 3 at the end.. a lot can happen. Designating a new race as the official team selection wipes the slate clean and provides those runners the opp to race their way onto the team.

IMO, the best remedy for the @usatf wmns half fiasco is to designate an alternative half b/w now-May (when team selection is due) as the official team selection race. Prob an unpopular opinion, but I also think USATF should be on the hook to comp entries to that half. Thoughts?

Busiest runner in America? 😅 Joey Whelan currently leads the 2025 California International Marathon at halfway in 64:30, which also doubles as the USATF national marathon championship. Whelan has a 42 second lead on the nine-man chase pack as he contests his fifth marathon of the year, also his third since September. Just four weeks ago he won the Indy Monumental Marathon in 2:12:49.

Hocker needed the inside lane to open. Why did Jakob drift out? Perception-action coupling. We perceive pressure from the outside so our automatic response is to drift outward. Staying on the rail takes effort to resist that urge. It’s why lane 1 always opens up.

What a run by @JessTonn to come in 4th. She ran her race, let the lead pack go. Was almost a minute down at halfway and 13th place.. Clawed her way back to 4th. Nearly even split the race on a hot day. Super hard to do.
