Almost as if the last 25 years didnโ€™t happen (at best), or made things far worse (at worst). As someone who remembers 9/11 (I was in 8th grade), the sense of national unity, the war fever, and justifications for the invasion, the toppling of Saddamโ€™s statue on April 9, 2003 (which I remember to this day), the slow then sudden decay into chaos and carnage, the โ€œsurge,โ€ etc. this is simply surreal beyond words.
