I'm hearing some interesting admissions off the back of Suzuka - namely, that there's a growing awareness within the FIA that the 50/50 split has been the wrong direction. It's understood that, in the short-term, energy deployment limits are being looked at while, longer-term, a change in the ICE vs. electrical split. Getting the drivers and teams in alignment is a hurdle to clear, with the teams not all agreeing with their drivers on the issues, but there is an awareness now that changes are needed. #F1 #JapaneseGP

Wer braucht schon Milliardäre? Nichts bringen sie unserem Land, diese Ausbeuter! Vermögens- und Erbschaftssteuer jetzt, und rot-weiß-rot wird zu rot-rot-rot und betritt die Utopie. So in etwa hat sich zumindest der öffentliche Diskurs angefühlt, als das Ableben des Red Bull-Gründers Dietrich Mateschitz seinem Sohn Mark eine stattliche Erbschaft verursacht hat. Ach, was hätte man nur alles finanzieren können, hätte man nur dem Energy Drink-Baron aus Salzburg seine Hinterlassenschaft genommen. Was in den Fantasien über einmalige Steuersegen aber immer übersehen wurde: Was passiert, wenn ein Unternehmen wie Red Bull das Land wegen fiskalischem Grabschertum einfach verlässt? Dann fehlt so viel Geld, wie eine ganze Stadt voller Otto-Normal-Lohnsteuerzahler dem Finanzminister einbringt. Eine Stadt, die größer als Linz wäre. Denn die jährlichen Steuererträge durch Körperschaftssteuer und Kapitalertragssteuer (angenommen, Mark Mateschitz schüttet sich den Gewinn aus) betragen mehr als 660 Millionen Euro. Um das aufzuwiegen, braucht es stattliche 240.092 Median-Lohnsteuerzahler, wie unser Ökonom Florian Ratzinger zeigt. Also mehr Menschen, als in der drittgrößten Stadt des Landes leben. Und da sind die übrigen positiven Effekte des Erfrischungs- und Sport-Giganten noch nicht einmal berücksichtigt. Da mag der einmalige Geldregen einer großen Erbschaft noch so verlockend für Finanzminister und linke Bürgerräte sein; wer unter dem Vorwand der Umverteilung zu Substanzsteuern greift, verkleinert am Schluss nur den Kuchen. ― Anmerkung zur Grafik: Die Steuerlast von Red Bull setzt sich aus der Körperschaftssteuer (492,95 Millionen Euro) und der Kapitalertragssteuer von Mark Mateschitz unter Annahme maximaler Gewinnausschüttung zusammen (174,82 Millionen Euro). Die Lohnsteuer auf das Medianeinkommen Unselbstständiger beträgt 2.780 Euro. Die Gemeinde Linz hat 212.583 Einwohner. Alle Zahlen von 2024.

Formula E routinely has 200+ overtakes in races half as long. Doesn't make them more exciting. And so many of the greatest F1 races feature fewer than 30 overtakes. Quality over quantity every time.

After watching the Australian GP Qualifying last night, my worry is that this is going to be a disappointing new era of F1 regulations. The 50% electrification is kind of a bummer. When you see a car lift-and-coast on a straight to regen their battery--whereas in the past, they would go flat out on the same spot--the driving feels...flaccid. I wish that Formula 1 would just go back simple V10 engines. Driving would be better, and the sound would be incredible.

As it stands, all overtakes in the #AustralianGP were poor. I don't care somebody cruising by a car that's lifting into a corner to recover energy. I want overtakes where both cars and drivers are on the limit. Both, the Aston and F1 race situation make it hard for me atm.(4/4)

Let's hope things improve soon. After all that wrong promises in the McLaren Honda era though, I am careful believing any promises by Honda again. Coping with the Honda situation would be so much easier if the new regs actually improved racing overall. (3/4) #F1

It hurts so much seeing Honda once again struggling with the engine regs. 2023 gave us so much hope for the upcoming seasons as Alonso fans. Even after a poor 2024 and 2025, back in our minds, we always had huge expectations for 2026. (1/4) #F1
