Come on @RoryStewartUK @dcsandbrook love @RestIsPolitics @campbellclaret but you are wide of mark when it comes to our Keir. Our PM is a calm, serious leader respected by decent informed people across UK and internationally. Why do you keep calling him Starmer rather than Keir?

@FluddePeter @Hepworthclare Firstly, Keir Starmer has a history of repeatedly lying. Secondly, nobody else in this country would have appointed Mandelson following the Epstein files. Thirdly, Mandelson holds more power than Starmer in this dynamic. That's why he got the job. Starmer isn't in control.

@MHartleyJones With respect, it certainly is about Mandelson, though his friends want to convince us it isn't. He seems to have given away state secrets to a foreign agent, quite a serious offence for a serving minister. Mandelson betrayed the Prime Minister's trust, not the other way round.

@pengersxi @Hepworthclare True, though it's odd that people seem more worked up about a regrettable appointment than the treachery of the man who made it regrettable. Giving away state secrets to a foreign agent is a serious crime, but from the headlines you'd think it was Mr Starmer's fault!

I'm no fan of Starmer. He's Mr Zero Charisma and you can find loads of my tweets criticizing his ludicrous Brexit stance, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 I genuinely don't get the current level of UK media and political obsession about 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 he knew, 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 he knew and 𝒘𝒉𝒐 told him what & when about Mandelson. Everyone with half a brain-cell could figure Mandelson would be a risky appointment, vetting or no vetting. The man was sacked twice for dodgy dealings by Blair FFS ! You can however maybe see why sending a flawed character like Mandelson might have appeared a (it turns out very unwise) solution to deal with the corrupt mafia-crook currently in the White House (desperate times etc), but does it deserve all this ? I dunno. If just 10% of the attention this is getting was turned on the people who actually 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐝 the Epstein crimes ? I stand to be enlightened and I'm sure I'll get an earful from Starmer's many vocal adversaries but for once I just don't get why the 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 is 𝒔𝒖𝒄𝒉 a thing ...

I agree. It was a bad mistake but remedial action was taken promptly. Chaos at a level UK doesn't need, but not quite at the level of Truss/Johnson etc - or Blair/Iraq etc...

@JohnSimpsonNews Mr Simpson, Is it the Iranians who twist and turn? Their opponents invent different war aims by the hour, view negotiations as an opportunity to attack and use language at which even Big Brother might balk - e.g. freeing people means killing them and erasing their civilization.

As Trump’s team are finding, Iranian officials are hard to negotiate with. Just when you think you’ve nailed them down, they twist and turn and you’ve got nothing. Professional US negotiators have found them hard to deal with. The current US team is finding it a lot harder.

Ecotricity did it - after four years of campaigning to reform our energy market by ‘breaking the link’ - our government just announced it will. Our bills will be lower, so will inflation and bank lending rates, our economy bigger and stronger. Windfall profits will also be lower, energy company shares are taking a battering now - on this news.

Decent man, I am sure. His appointment of Mandelson was so very obviously totally flawed from the outset and his judgement therefore has been shown to be 180° out. I think he should very carefully consider his position.
