@memeslich It's one of the most interesting expressions of skill in a system. In 5e, this mainly means having a party comp of exclusively armor-dipped casters.

How do you feel about min maxing in Dungeons & Dragons?

@Gingerblast My favorite 5.5e downgrade is how they edited the wording of the Invisible condition to remove the part that actually makes you invisible.

One of the biggest downgrades from 2014 to 2024 5e is that they changed the contagion spell so that you can no longer explicitly infect someone with contagious epilepsy 💀

@epicdndmemes 5e martials are just a total joke. Not good defensively, not good offensively, and in a system with lock-and-key encounter design they just barely have any keys.

@ChubbyFunsterGC You are tasked with traveling across the multiverse on a railroad to collect pieces of a macguffin so the book can show you all the cool places in DnD lore. Except the premise is nonsense, the villains are absent and/or idiots and the writers didn't even do basic research.

@lampmann_art @ArtsSmaco @BrandonHennin18 Depending on era/assumed limitations with no Mystra present in the 40k universe, Karsus's Avatar on the Chaos Gods is also just an instant-win move. D&D (casters) scaling above the Cthulhu Mythos would be a reasonable take.

@ArtsSmaco @BrandonHennin18 I'm not too familiar with 40k, but D&D characters (specifically 5e) are extremely overpowered. A level 17 Wizard can create an arbitrarily large army of minions and Simulacrums, time travel 8000 years per day per Ancient Time Dragon, and be immune to AMF by being a quasi-deity.

@Gingerblast I don't see how that could even work for a system. "Reward systems drive player behavior" is game design 101.

Something interesting that came up in my posts about gp = xp was the sentiment that some DMs prefer to not tell players exactly what is worth xp I get a lot of people don't like to peak behind the curtain, but the idea of not telling players what awards xp seems so foreign to me

@memeslich Wild Magic > Giant > Zealot > AG > everything else > Battlerager and Storm Herald WM6 is a stronger feature than the entire barbarian class because it gives your casters a few more spell slots.

@HMBohemond Galactic Empire (EU) has an advantage because of mobility and ease of manufacturing new ISDs afaik. Other than that, I could see D&D's Netheril being stronger if Karsus can use his Avatar spell on the Dark Gods.

I saw this cringe now you have to as well. Even the Combine aren't a guaranteed threat, since they only conquered MODERN Earth in seven hours. I'd love to see them try and conquer the Imperium. It wouldn't go well for them. The UN from the Expanse, UNSC, Federation from Star Trek, and New Republic don't stand a snowball's chance in hell.

@memeslich No, it makes it better. You're at war with the monsters and the environment, making a good build is an engaging expression of system mastery.

@memeslich Beholders need a buff, the 5e beholder statblock is effectively a sitting duck when facing any form of LOS blocking (which is both dirt cheap and something you should always bring) and its minion-acquiring capabilities leave much to be desired. It dies to level 2 5e PCs.

Do beholders need a nerf or players need better plans?
