Earth Surface Process Modelling at GFZ

Last summer for @GFZ_SurfMod's contribution to LNDW23, #fastscape was used together with Jupyter widgets to create a special kind of photo booth. A fun way to show how landscape evolution models work!

Thanks to those who joined my public talk yesterday. The discussion was very interesting and lively. Hope we will have more early warning works to come.

We had the pleasure of hosting Eyal Marder from @IU_EAS this week who presented his work on the interplay of tectonics, climate, and biodiversity in mountain landscapes.

This week, we had the pleasure of hosting @laura_quick from @ProjectPamana at U. Glasgow who presented a very hi-rez topographic dataset of a gravel river over several years. This is done to improve understanding of evolving flood risk.

Day 13 #TGIF and last day of The Factory was ended by a mathematics for geoscientists course taught by ⁦⁦@jeanbraun_⁩ from ⁦@GFZ_SurfMod⁩ He taught some fundamental maths and statistics to help ESRs with modelling landscape evolution, and analyzing their data #PhD

Daniel O'Hara (@VUBrussel) stopped by to tell us how fluvial landscapes emerge on volcanoes. Very interesting work on snapshots through time in the retired life of a 🌋!

The Chemical Weathering team (led by Emmanuelle Pucéat) met in Dijon at @univbourgogne to discuss the implementation of the results our ESRs have compiled into the models developed by the modelling work package (led by Jean Braun)

We had the pleasure to listen to @DavidGLitwin nondimensionalize all parameters of groundwater flow and redimensionalize it all again to find Dunne (1975). Thanks for making the trip!
