Cole Carlon went 6 shutout innings with 12 strikeouts, but ASU's bullpen allowed a 7-run seventh inning to squander a four-run lead against Arizona. The Wildcats pick up just their 10th win of the year. ASU falls to 22-9 and 6-5 in the Big 12.

It’s worth noting that the Wildcats have just three .300+ hitters in their lineup, whereas ASU has eight.
Arizona’s lineup is composed mostly of underclassmen. Still, Carlon’s performance, particularly regarding his lack of reliance on his fastball, is significant.

Carlon allowed 2 hits but got out of the 6th unscathed before unleashing a banshee scream after picking up the 3rd out. He’s at career-highs in pitches (103) and strikeouts (12) and he’s done it mostly with off-speed, breaking pitches. A sign of strong development 4-0 ASU. T7.
