We will get to a point very soon where you can just generate whatever movie, show, song, etc you want. It won’t look or sound like slop, though it will still be slop because it will have no soul, no meaning. Art is an expression of the human soul. If it isn’t that, it isn’t art. The question is whether humans will be satisfied with the empty, meaningless mash of sounds and images that their computers vomit out. If we are satisfied, then art will die. And I mean die. We’ll live in a world of noise and spectacle but no art. But if we refuse to be satisfied, if we value soul over spectacle, then art will not only survive but thrive. I really hope for the latter. But I’m pretty confident it will be the former.
