January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. Cervical cancer remains one of the deadliest cancers affecting women in Nigeria. Many cases are diagnosed late, when treatment is more difficult and expensive. One of the most effective tools for prevention is the HPV vaccine. Yet misinformation and low awareness continue to limit its uptake across the country. Let us fact-check the basics. A thread🧵

HealthFactCheck: Does HPV vaccination promote early sexual activity? No. There is no evidence to support this claim. The vaccine protects against cancer, not behaviour.

Huge thanks for sharing this! Vaccination + screening + treatment = the path to ending cervical cancer as a public health threat. Let's keep pushing toward 2030! 💙 #CervicalCancerElimination
WHO African Region@WHOAFRO

To eliminate cervical cancer by 2030, @WHO recommends: ✅ 90% of girls under 15 vaccinated against HPV ✅ 70% of eligible women screened ✅ 90% of women diagnosed with cervical cancer receive treatment WHO calls for stronger commitment to scale up vaccination, screening and treatment. Together, we can #EndCervicalCancer 🎗️ who.int/initiatives/ce…

WHO’s cervical cancer elimination strategy is built on the 90–70–90 targets: vaccinating 90% of girls against HPV, screening 70% of women, and treating 90% of those diagnosed. We need to create more awareness about the importance of the HPV Vaccine in Nigeria.
