Really excited to see this paper finally out! It was a full lab field trip to re-sample an experiment we started in 2003. Replacement of #Phalaris arundinacea with swamp forest is underway. Three cheers for long-term data!

Just read this great article by @mcewanlab on Callery Pear on the Conversation (thanks google news feed!). Really nice overview of this invasive species introduced broadly by the landscaping industry and now spreading to natural areas in our region!

@mas5050 @lflory The big problem I see here is that although the text itself is carefully worded, the use of supporting references is not - leading to references specifically focused on invasive non-natives when the comment in text refers to non-natives more broadly.

UGH. You've got to be kidding me. This paper is simply an expansion of the Don't Judge Species paper, which I use on day 1 of my bio inv class as an example of the lack of understanding of the definition of invasive species and how they are prioritized for management 1/n

Last point - IMO (Steve here) Columbus is a great city (no longer a "cow town") and our dept is really collegial and supportive, particularly for junior faculty. I feel fortunate to have landed here and see great things ahead for future colleagues!!
