@JezCorden "outcasts" Literally the second most powerful organisation on Azeroth, being capable of projecting it's power anywhere on the globe.

I lament for the Horde, which Blizzard seems to be intentionally erasing from World of Warcraft. Is it to make the game more "appealing"? Does someone at Blizzard just dislike what the Horde represented? I loved the sense of being an outcast. Sucks to see it wiped away. An ode to the Horde, and what it meant to me: windowscentral.com/gaming/pc-gami… 🔽

@QuinlanWils @Fel925826686378 @Knightly_Hist Dark Souls 3 was basically Dark Souls 2.0, and Elden Ring was basically Dark Souls 3 with open world. True about Bloodborne and Sekiro tho, i wish we got Sekiro 2 instead of Elden Ring.

@Broken_Imp @Knightly_Hist Probably between late ww1 - up to military adoption of bulletproof vests, not counting some exception like soviet engineers.

We tend to exagerate the defensive capabilities of armor. Full plate armor was incredibly efficient at protecting from melee weapons (for as long as that phase of the battle is common and decisive, armor sticks around) and we're still learning to what degree it protected from arrows and bullets. But it certainly didn't make you unvulnerable to projectiles, specially up close (the range where armored men thrive in). It eventually became more cost-effective to field tens of thousands of marksmen instead of a couple thousands (and much more expensive) men-at-arms or cuirassiers or light horse. So Im certainly with Dr Burns on ths one (you have to be). However, the period in which humanity hasn't made significant use of armor (in warfare) is very small, and we're already back to it, it's interesting to think what soldiers are gonna look like once exoskeletons improve.

Famously, this is why western warfare abandoned firearms in the mid-1600s, and why heavily armored men-at-arms continue to be the premier force in resolving disputes down to the present day.

@HuczekAdam @Knightly_Hist As long as Miyazaki is allowed to make the creative choices I'm fairly confident that we won't just get ER style open world titles (even though I loved it). He has always talked about preferring to make things he hasn't done yet and are new to him e.g. BB over DS2.

@Knightly_Hist @javi3hundred Imo Chivlary 2 is better. Agatha and Mason Order are far more interesting than For Honor factions, Slash/Overhead/Stab system is simple to understand, yet has a lot of depth, and weapons arent tied to classes. Not to mention 32 vs 32, and objectives you have to complete on maps.

Ooof Yeah The core basis of the gameplay and the kinesthetics are bar none. Regardless of silly moves it's a game that *feels* like you're actually fighting it out with somebody and some of the desgins are pretty cool. Subjectively tho, I hate the sensorial overload this game hits you with, flashing dozens of visual effects, warning sings and the overall design philosophy (visual and mechanical) of the final product and the DLC. But if you're not buying it with major expectations of realistic combat and historical accuracy, and turn off the effects, you'll get a lot of value for your money.

One of the things that makes From Software armor designs stand out is that much of it is gounded in real history. If you were to strip the 16th century armor from DS3 and replace it with more Warcraft adjacent designs it would lose much of it's character. It would also make the more fantastical designs (like Ornstein & Smough's armor) feel way more mundane.

This is a projection of our modern view on social elites. We associate (undeserved) privilege with incompetence. The reality is that being born into wealth allowed you access to the resources and time to prepare yourself for war. The Fancylad's business was violence.

casual viewers were only surprised that aerion is skilled at combat bc they expect/assume that every cruel, petulant prince or king is gonna be a replica of joffrey.

I need From Software to go back to fluted armor designs. Not only do they all slap, but they're inspired by some of my favourite historical armor ever: The "Maximilian style" from the early 16th century, or "riefelharnisch" as germans usually call it.
