Important but difficult day for #suicideprevention with ONS confirming a rise in rates. We need govt action now - not just words of commitment but actions such as renewing vital local suicide prevention funding @DHSCgovuk @hmtreasury and every govt dept working to prevent suicide

Today’s @ONS data shows that suicide rates registered in England and Wales last year were the highest in more than two decades. These figures show that suicide rates are at a 20-year high and even worse than expected. This needs to be a wake-up call for the Government.

I had a miscarriage early last week.
Today I had a courtesy call for a scan I was due to have next Monday.
I fully support the NHS but simple admin surrounding baby loss seems like an easy (& crucial) fix….
Is it any wonder our mental health is unstable during this time?

This is an important message about the value of acknowledging or asking someone about suicidal thoughts and feelings. At my sister's inquest we said that health agencies should support family members and friends to find the right language to use in conversation with loved ones.

@CaanBerryTrader Recognising that gambling related harm can be a dominant factor in a suicide is really important for suicide prevention efforts. All parts of society can help prevent suicide, incl. the gambling industry.

@JacSprad Incorrect, the coroner said it was a "contributing factor" they did not say it was the cause. There's a very big difference. 63% of those with gambling disorder also have alcohol addiction issues, it doesn't mean alcohol killed them.

People with lived experience have led the way in raising the issue of gambling related harm and suicide. The gambling industry must change - glad to have taken a small but important stand about this today.
