Exactly! We even joke that the US government whenever it wants to come up with new military equipment, it piles up a gigantic stack of cash and lights it on fire. We then dance around it until it burns up. Once it’s done burning, a special new piece of military equipment magically appears. It’s why our military budget is so high. That’s how we do it here in the Hamburger Kingdom 😂 So you see, equipment is just there to accomplish the mission, it can be replaced. But people? People are irreplaceable… So we mean it when we say “No man left behind!”

I have more interests in common with a stereotypical Japanese man of my age than I do virtually any European equivalent. - Baseball - Martial arts - Guns - Giant robots/mechas - Commie hate - Fast cars and fun trucks - BBQ - Tastes in alcohol (beer, whiskey, sake) On a personal level, I've also found the Japanese embassy team in DC to be second to none in hospitality, shared laughter, and esprit de corps. Example: a few months ago, I found myself "arguing" with two of their diplomatic staff (baseball fanatics) for 30 minutes about the finer distinctions between a gyro slider and splinker. It was awesome. 🇺🇸🤝🇯🇵

Japan is the guy who got drunk at the bar one night, jumped your ass, and gave you a black eye before you got back up and handed him such a Biblical ass-whooping that it ended with you tossing him through the bar's window. But instead of killing him as you hauled him up to deliver the finishing blow, you both started laughing about "Well at least you're not a fucking Communist." You then dusted each other off, limped back inside the bar, and started chatting about your hobbies over shots of Sake and Jack Daniels. Now, decades later, you consider him to be a better brother to you than your actual blood relatives.

They are Anime Swords… The US Air Force has Anime Swords… You think I’m joking but I’m not 😂 The official name is the “Order of the Sword,” but some call them Anime Swords for fun. It’s one of the highest honors enlisted members can give to an officer. Chosen completely by them, not handed down. That’s what makes it unique. They’re completely symbolic, meant to be displayed, and every one is custom. Some look incredible… some look completely ridiculous. All of them reflect the unit, the people, and the officer being honored. It’s part tradition, part humor, and a genuine way to show respect.

日本人の食文化への順応ぶりは、世界的に見てもとんでもないです。 日本に遊びに来たドイツ人なんて、老舗の鰻屋に連れてったのに、うなぎを口に入れた瞬間、青ざめてトイレに駆け込みました。 でも日本人は違います。 例えば江戸時代まで牛の肉食は禁忌とされ、薬用目的か一部で隠れて食べる人しかいませんでした。 しかし、明治になってから政府が牛肉食を大体的に奨励してから、牛鍋屋が次々とでき、みんなこぞってすき焼きを食べました。初期は一部に反発も合ったようですが、時間とともに沈静化してしまいました。 特に、「牛の乳」なんてまったく飲む習慣がなかったにも関わらず、お上が「滋養に良い」とPRしてから、グビグビ飲んでます。 そして、牛丼・カレー・ナポリタン・とんかつなど、西洋の食材はあっという間に日本人好みにローカライズされました。 おそらくここまで異文化メシへの順応と改造が早い国は日本以外ありません。 アメリカ人は数年後にピーナッツコーラがどのように変貌を遂げるか刮目すべきです。

3日前に『コーラにピーナッツを入れる』というアメリカの文化が流入し「美味すぎる！」って日本人のコメントがあふれてたのに、昨日くらいから「お酒にピーナッツ入れても美味いな」みたいなのが増えてきてて、「そこに至るのが早すぎないか？」ってアメリカ人ドン引きコメント増えてて面白い

Wow! Lots of engagement lately especially with our Japanese friends. I’ll be honest, I took a long break from being active on X. Not posting, just quietly liking posts, etc. American X had just become a lot of rage bait, bots, and endless politics. So I didn’t want to interact much. But then the auto translation feature was rolled out and we started interacting with our friends in Japan and it was so refreshing. X became truly fun again and I have throughly enjoyed the mutual cultural exchange, warmth, jokes, and admiration shared by people on both sides. Japanese bros are just so enthusiastic, full of life and actually very funny. We are different but have a lot more in common than I think most of us realized. I hope we keep this up and bad actors don’t ruin it. I’ll try to keep up being more active and provide some value or entertainment where I can.

@miseri_shiko Yea auto translation plus the update to the algorithm has definitely been a welcome change. The negative stuff doesn’t really show up unless you interact with it. So it’s easier to separate yourself from the crazies 😂 Hopefully they keep it this way.
