@CoreyShrader I don’t know if I should add him in my deep dynasty. Probably?

If there’s one guy that you could waive a magic wand and grant league average hit tool too - I might just pick Big Tony. It’s 90 grade power.

MY GOODNESS 😱 @Pirates prospect Tony Blanco Jr. just sent this grand slam to space! #SpringBreakout

"This dude is not going to be in the minor leagues for long. Stanifer. This dude is nasty. I mean it's electric stuff" High praise from the Phillies broadcast just as Stanifer caps off 3 scoreless IP with 4 punchouts and 0 walks. 97 MPH here on top-100 prospect Aroon Escobar

In terms of velocity, shape, and arm slot, Seth Hernandez's fastball is comparable to Hunter Greene and Daniel Palencia A Pirates potential 2028-2029 rotation: 1. Paul Skenes 2. Bubba Chandler 3. Jared Jones 4. Seth Hernandez 5. Braxton Ashcraft 🔥🔥🔥

All 4 whiffs from Seth Hernandez tonight: 101.5 MPH 4-seam (19 IVB) 85.8 MPH changeup (31 inVB, 13 inHB) 82.1 MPH curveball (55 inVB) 99.8 MPH 4-seam (19 IVB) Absolute filth.

@jensen_juicy @rossjensen Part of my brain agrees with that Part of my brain is like no shot It’s a great point, i guess Judge just is an insane outlier

Simplest way I can put it is that he has one of the highest whiff rates in the entire league and struggles to consistently get the ball into 80% of his max EV, which is analytically measuring how often you hit the ball clean. Obviously, the rest of the package is extreme enough that it doesn’t really matter because he’s a true outlier pretty much everywhere else.

This is the exact reason I like to give both a hit tool grade and an approach grade. Very different tools imo. I view hit tool as bat path, simplicity of set up, barrel adjustability and pure contract ability. Approach is tracking velo/spin, feel for the zone, tape study on the arms you’re facing and pitch selection in relation to where you are in the count and in the game. Different skillsets that shouldn’t be counted as the same tool imo.
Ross Jensen@rossjensen

Walk through a blind player thought exercise with me. Pretend both have 2,000 career PA. hich of these players has the better hit tool? Player A .280 ba, .380 obp, 22% k%, .325 BABIP Player B .290 ba, .360 obp, 12% k%, .290 BABIP

Tigers 2024 first rounder Bryce Rainer slaps an RBI single the other way. Hands are so quick, but I do wonder if such a big move with his hands and how low they get before his swing will make things difficult for him over the course of the season.

@jensen_juicy @rossjensen Can you help me understand why Judge doesn’t have a particularly good hit tool? Interested to hear

@rossjensen Not particularly, for his size sure. I think he’s an elite approach and his power really boosts his babip. I do think he has quality bat path. But the bat to ball is enough to drop the grade.

OF Ryan Mitchell became just the third different #STLCards player to hit a Spring Breakout HR, belting a solo blast in his third at-bat. The 18-year-old was the #STLCards 2nd round pick in last year's MLB Draft out of Houston HS in Germantown, Tennessee.

✅5+ CHECKMARK HITTERS - 2025✅ I have the simplest of algorithms for grading hitters and it updates a Google Sheet daily. It's overly simplistic, but sometimes that's the most fun. It checks six categories to see which hitters are well above average in them. Categories: - Low strikeout rate - High contact rate (this is double counting a bit) - Barrels - Low GB% - High EV on fly balls - Attempting steals - Swinging at strikes Only one hitter finished 2025 with all seven checks: WILYER ABREU Here is everybody with at least six checkmarks:

@GoatedCardinals @rossjensen I have had plenty interactions with Ross, he seems like a good guy! I’m sure it’s posted somewhere, but if not I bet he would discuss it in details. He’s actively working on getting better, so I’d try a more respectful approach.
