Sam Basallo might be a “don’t overthink it” situation this year… any reason you come up with to fade him is overwritten by him being a catcher with some of the best raw power in the game, and he doesn’t have a huge strikeout problem

@JonPgh @pitchprofiler Bat path of batter is really just handedness. But more importantly pitches that move in a way that is unexpected compared to pitchers of the same arm angle have good shape.

Roki Sasaki's fastball is a problem last year: 312 pitches, 96.1mph, 5.8% SwStr%, 46% Strike%, 6 HR spring: 65 pitches, 97.6mph, 4.6% SwStr%, 32.2% Strike%, 2 HR League averages for a four-seamer for context: 10.6% SwStr%, 50% Strike% @pitchprofiler gives it a 92 Stuff+

FANTASY BASEBALL SPARPS "Starting Pitcher as Relief Pitcher" Pitchers to bump up in leagues where it's an advantage to be able to use them in an RP spot Rules vary... but here are the guys with a chance to be good enough to matter in fantasy this year. Please let me know if I miss anyone obvious. - Braxton Ashcraft - Joey Cantillo - Reid Detmers - Kyle Leahy - Ian Seymour (AAA) - Carmen Mlodzinski (bulk guy?) - Steven Matz (stop gap til Seymour takes over?)

@RobertStock6 @pitchprofiler I have learned recently that it doesn’t move in a way that properly avoids the regular bat path or something I’m getting there

@JonPgh @pitchprofiler Because you don’t understand pitch shapes, does it confuse you why his fastball plays so poorly?

@Eross418 Weathers for upside, but Harrison seems safer Sorry this probably doesn’t help

@_plusfive Some leagues have limits on how many SPs you can own, so you can have Ashcraft as a starter this year and he won’t count toward your SP max Also, some points leagues you just want as many weekly starts as possible, so you can use these guys to get more starters

@JonPgh Honest question, why would you ever want to put an SP in an RP spot? Besides if you had a day with more starts than spots

Who is the Cardinals closer? Drafters think it looks like this: 1. Riley O'Brien (ADP 250) 2. Matt Svanon (ADP 350) 3. JoJo Romero (ADP 360) But the gap is closing a bit

STUFF PLUS MODEL PROJECTION BOOSTS I compared ERA projections between the systems that use pitch modeling stuff (The Bat X & OOPSY) with systems that don't. The goal was to find pitchers who project better when you consider the STUFF. You'll never believe who was #1!! Actually you will - it was Chase Burns. The story on him and a bunch of other guys in your inbox now from MLB Data Warehouse!

Yea there’s a pathway He doesn’t have a high K%, has about an average contact rate with slightly above average bat speed and a good line drive rate Plus he can run a little bit
Md97@QezzersD

@JonPgh Is there a pathway where Bo Naylor is a decent C, or was his .195 BA last season indicative of the player he will be moving forward?

Agreed, Jon. Pittsburgh's COL index is 91.8 on BestPlaces vs Granger's 79 – roughly 16% cheaper overall there. Your 5BR house with yard for less than a Pitt 2BR condo is exactly why families bail on urban cores: more space, quieter streets, better bang for the buck on home life. The kid factor makes it non-negotiable for a lot of folks.

if you're just a well-off single dude or a married dude with no kids, I can see taking the trade off for the city life. not at all my cup of tea, but I can see why someone else would like it. but if you have kids... man it's not even close how much better your home life is living far away from these cities I went from Pittsburgh PA to out here in Indiana. I have a five bedroom house with a big backyard in a super quiet and really nice neighborhood.. I pay less monthly than I did for a two bedroom condo with no yard or garage in pittsburgh it's not a comparison for people like me

Granger, IN has much lower cost of living than NYC. BestPlaces data: - Overall index: Granger 79 (21% below US avg) vs NYC 172.5 (73% above US avg). NYC ~118% higher overall. - Family salary needed: $65k/yr Granger vs $130k NYC. - Single: $52k vs $92k. Biggest gap is housing—median home $341k vs $677k; 2BR rent ~$1,570 vs $2,600. Groceries/utilities 15-50% cheaper in Granger too. South Bend-area data (Numbeo proxy) confirms: rents/food far lower.

@JonPgh Would Josh Bell be a good placeholder 1B this year if I'm waiting on Ralphy, Clifford, Abimelec, Luke Adams & Briceño to get promoted? Just dropped Horowitz for him.
