50 times as many NIMBYs have written letters to urge the council to adopt the worst SB 79 option than YIMBYs have written to support the good options. IF YOU LIVE IN LA... SPEND 2 MINUTES AND DO THIS RIGHT NOW secure.everyaction.com/eTBylMIrOEyeq7…

@Cassy_Horton It’s wild we don’t already do that. All contracts should be performance based. If you can’t deliver let alone provide data on efficacy of a program you shouldn’t be seeing any tax payer dollars.

This is what’s missing in politics. Being willing to view new data counter to your beliefs, change your opinion, admit you were wrong and try to fix it.
Dave Rand@DRand2024

Exactly! I am mystified by this attack on @nithyavraman when she is literally the only LA elected official that tried to lead on ULA reform. I for one see the willingness to reconsider past positions when presented with new evidence as a real asset for an elected official.

@_lej44 This says everything about LA’s political system. Protect the status quo and the insiders above all else. That’s why I’m running for City Council, time for some real political outsiders focused on solutions

LA's political class is obsessed with trying to describe a competitive election that is healthy for LA as "backstabbing" - voters won't care though and will ultimately choose the candidate they believe in more.

@resedajohn I’ve painted with them. Not really anarchists just good people who care about street safety.

In LA there's a group of anarchists who paint crosswalks where they're needed. They don't go to City Hall and lobby their council members to do something they will just drag their feet on, they just do it. Funny how the city is quick to paint over the crosswalks tho

@andrew_rudick Looked it up. Back in June they grilled McDonnell on the tactics used during protests. Went on recess and we didn’t hear much about it until they called out the attorney for trying to halt the order to stop LAPD from targeting press in October.

@andrew_rudick Didn’t they do this already after the protests last summer and then nothing came of it?

@_lej44 This exactly. Our leaders need to focus on good governance not playing political games and favoritism. Hugo’s district shouldn’t suffer because Bass or MHD puts him in the dog house for supporting Nithya

to be fair, there’s a chance someone like Hugo is supporting Bass cus he’s afraid of retaliation and knows it would be harder for him to deliver his goals if Bass wins again/ banishes him from her orbit - which says a lot about the pettiness of LA machine politics

Nearly every LA council member is lockstepping against Nithya and reiterating support for Bass out of deference to alliances+politics. This shows you more than anything how much standard LA politicians don’t care about outcomes (Nithya objectively cares more + more competent)
Karen Bass@KarenBassLA

I’m proud to have the support of Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez, a partner who shares a deep commitment to progressive, people-first policies. Together, we’ve strengthened tenant protections, advanced housing stability, and worked to address homelessness and community safety. Thank you, Hugo, for your endorsement and for standing with us as we build a more just and affordable Los Angeles.

@MayorOfLA You could use the power of your office to actually get our city departments to implement HLA instead of finding loopholes not to. Make our roads actually safer.

Mayor Karen Bass@MayorOfLA·
My heart is with the victims, their families, and all who were impacted by the deadly crash at the 99 Ranch Market in Westwood this afternoon. I want to thank our first responders who acted immediately to respond to this emergency and render critical aid. Members of the LAFD and the LAPD will remain on the scene, and the Mayor’s Office Crisis Response team is enroute to offer support and resources. I’m asking all Angelenos to avoid the area as the investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing.

My other opponent said they’d be interested in learning more about that option. But for me that question was an easy yes. I don’t need to learn more about how cars excessively speed down a six lane road and make it incredibly unsafe for bikes or pedestrians.

Because we prioritize cars over people. In a debate held by @streetsforall one of my opponents said he would never remove street parking or a travel lane to put a bike lane on a major street. He’d rather cars have the ability to speed down a major street than prioritize safety.
LA City Controller Kenneth Mejia@lacontroller

In one week, cars killed 5 people in LA, including a pregnant mother & her unborn child. The City paid out $318 million in Dangerous Condition Liabilities since 2020 while investing only 5% of its annual budget in street services & transportation. These deaths were preventable.

@marvistavoice @lst156 And many of those stories don’t mention anything about HLA or the fact bike lanes were taken out or blocked from being built in the first place

@lst156 CBS is not elected policy-maker. CBS does not have the power to make our streets safer for people outside of cars. Only our elected leaders aka those in charge do Reporting on a news story doesn't mean they're "in charge" of anything unfortunately

@marvistavoice @MayorOfLA Politicians care more about avoiding angry calls to their office or loss of campaign donations due to “increased traffic” than ensuring people are safe on our streets

The blind spot that our "leaders" have when it comes to transportation is deliberate It is more politically expedient for @MayorOfLA Karen Bass to ignore the fact that more people have been killed by drivers in the last 3 years than homicide than to dare inconvenience drivers
Michael Schneider@schneider

Just listened to @MayorOfLA say that “public safety is more than police…” and started to talk about other safety issues, such as streetlights being out. She didn’t say one word about the hundreds of pedestrians killed by traffic violence last year, or the thousands injured.
