The cancellation shouldn't be all too surprising. Virginia Tech had to cancel a noncon game with the ACC moving to a nine-game conference schedule. The Hokies previously had JMU, ODU, Maryland and VMI on their noncon schedule. VT has to play a noncon P4 (Maryland), a win vs. VMI would count toward bowl eligibility, so it was likely down to JMU or ODU.
