@farmingandJesus In the modern is probably a somewhat later development but reverence shown to kings and holy items and places (the ark, temple, bronze serpent are present. The example clearest for me from scripture is Joshua bowing down before the ark.

If I walked into a church and they practiced kissing cartoon pictures of presumed saints I would walk out Christ alone!

I had a Protestant friend tell me rejected becoming Orthodox. He didn’t call me an idolator and said that he had experienced Christ in his Baptist church and therefore wasn’t interested in looking elsewhere. It was a simple argument and honestly a good apologetic.

@farmingandJesus I’d disagree that it’s not in scripture I see iconography all through scripture and in the earliest churches. It’s probably not something we will likely ever agree on. I appreciate that you take scripture seriously as so many do not. 🙏

@JoshOrtho It’s not my point of view though ;) It’s scripture , I will never ever be orthodox. I visited the one by our house (for observation purposes ) after talking with the “father” and he could not answer my questions. :) I found the answers in my Bible

Just a reminder that Samuel Farag is not now nor has he ever belonged to the Eastern Orthodox Church. Therefore any claims to some sort of ‘insider knowledge’ is a bald faced lie.

@LowStudies They interestingly use an argument very similar to Mormons or Muslims that the church was ‘corrupted’ and they are the true early church. There is usually a jab at St. Constantine in there as well.

I have never heard a Protestant able to answer this.

@muslimorthodoxy In Christ there is no Greek. Paul is speaking of vice not a situation of one’s birth.

Racism is explicitly taught in Christianity, in Titus 1:12, Paul quotes a racist saying against Cretans and says that this statement is true. “‘Cretans are always liars, vicious beasts, lazy gluttons.’ That testimony is true.” Are Christians okay with saying for example “African Americans are always liars, viscous beasts, and lazy gluttons” ?

The Orthodox Church will change you And will heal you.

When I said that these people have turned Christianity into their business model.. It makes me angry especially when people like this women are so unlearned as to say candles and incense as used in Orthodox worship is ‘The Occult.’ End the business church model!

@Exposit_TheWord Just so everyone knows, contrary to what he may claim, and what people who endorse his book may claim… Farag is not and has never been Orthodox.

This is probably one of the most haunting images I’ve seen. Some half a century ago these men were trying to kill one another in one of the bloodiest conflicts in American history. I think it provides some hope and perhaps a better way forward for us today.

Most of my extended family were primitive Baptists. I love their music! Honestly it made me fall in love with a capella music in the church and Byzantine chant.
