The downfall of 6Music is baffling. Going from a station with a clear identity and knowing who it's audience was to the current jumble sale is madness. Not to mention MAH playing 2 hours of deranged jungle during the day. Utter nonsense.

What are the iconic covers that outstripped the original? Amy Winehouse's Valerie is one, Johnny Cash's Hurt, Buckley's Hallelujah.
johnny v5@generativist

@TheStalwart what's your favorite cover? I bet you have a good answer and a wealth of opinions. (i'm going with: carmalita, adam duritz and placebo, where is my mind)

@JoshThorpeBBC @DPJHodges Ok, well, to repeat: my point wasn't about Swindon South solely - it was about the absence of counts through choice later on in the programme. If that hadn't happened, I wouldn't have mistaken a technical issue for an editorial call.

@JoshThorpeBBC @DPJHodges And I've said, okay, I get that there was a technical challenge there, but that wasn't why the TV programme missed Bristol Central. Or Melksham and Devizes. Or Waveney Valley.

@DPJHodges @JoshThorpeBBC But it's just straightforwardly disingenuous to ignore that I am saying 'I think there should have been more counts on TV' and to go 'well, of the many counts we didn't show on TV we didn't show by accident' and then talk about radio.

@DPJHodges @JoshThorpeBBC Indeed. Fine to say 'I think interviews and chat are better choices than counts on election night'. Maybe it was, I accept that 'person who rewatches BBC election night programming the weekend after so he can enjoy it without having to report on it' is a niche use case.

@JoshThorpeBBC @stephenkb Joshua, I think this perfectly underlines the problem with your coverage, and your attitude to it. We didnโ€™t want interviews with the candidates giving their assessment of the results. We wanted the actual results themselves.

@JoshThorpeBBC @DPJHodges I feel like you are missing my objection here, which is not just about the one count (I mean, there was a second marginal *in Swindon* that didnโ€™t get on air either!) but about the absence of counts through the night.

@JoshThorpeBBC @stephenkb But with respect, isnโ€™t being able to deal with technical issues an important part of being the national broadcaster

@stephenkb My point is it wasn't an editorial decision not to get the start of the count. There was an issue with the sound on the live feed at the start which meant we missed the first bit of the declaration, but we still covered it. No idea about the other 2 though

@JoshThorpeBBC Right, so you...missed the count, like I said. I appreciate that it is a technical challenge, but that isn't why you did not have Bristol Central or Waveney Valley on air either.

But to classlessly return to grousing about the election night TV - the BBC didnโ€™t even cover the count from *Swindon South*, the first marginal to declare!

I got to vote in 2 elections on the same day. In person in the UK and by internet for the 2nd round of the French election. I will never ever take that for granted. Democracy is a wonderful thing!

Airport links. In Luxembourg, Boston and Vermont you get a free bus into town after your flight. In many other places, though, airline passengers are penalised: Luton Dart: ยฃ4.90 for 1.2 miles Edinburgh tram: an extra ยฃ5.50 for the final half-mile. Others? independent.co.uk/travel/news-anโ€ฆ
