As the authors discuss, more extremely preterm infants are surviving to adulthood, and as this population grows we are gaining more understanding of the long-term renal consequences of being born premature #KidNeo

It will be important that we continue to investigate the causes and risks of CKD in this growing population, as well as importance of close monitoring of premature kidney health through childhood and adolescence, and studies like this are helping us do just that! #KidNeo

T3⃣ Do you think the relatively good health of the study population played a role in the study findings? Perhaps those children who would have had more significant renal impairment as a result of prematurity were less likely to participate in a clinical trial? #KidNeo

T3⃣ The authors attribute the low rates of hypertension and lack of perturbations in biochemical markers of kidney-associated bone disease to the: ⭐️Small sample size, and ⭐️Overall health of the population included in the study #KidNeo

T3⃣ Of note, the study participants who were found to have reduced kidney function by mGFR and/or hypertension were referred for further evaluation #KidNeo

@DDD_Askenazi Perhaps this is why the authors didn't highlight this finding - makes sense!

yea...this is an important issue...it actually speaks to the fact that the eGFR is not very accurate...the mGFR (by defintion if they did it right is more accurate)...thus the eGFR is biased towards lower numbers....
