@BarackObama Wish more world leaders could have the decency, intelligence and morality of both of these men..

@marquelawyers Scomo obviously didn’t ask “what would Jenny think”?

@urmed02 @Dr_KS_Gautham Perhaps encourage a few parents of babies that die from NEC who didn’t get probiotics to start legal action stating they didn’t get provided with the option of probiotics to prevent it
English

@Dr_KS_Gautham I don’t know…we’ve weathered other “overreach” before as a field (i.e. Support trial and risk of death). We need to be advocating and educating. Probiotics are used extensively around the world (100% of NZ NICUs) and we are the experts.

The use of probiotics in neonates in the US is now IMO a lost cause. The first nail in the coffin was the 2021 AAP COFN statement. The recent FDA alert sealed the fate of probiotics. IMO we should focus now on reducing intestinal dysbiosis in neonates in other ways:

Amp/gent or pen/gent covers nearly all severe bacterial infections. Widespread use of cephalosporins may increase resistance & does not cover Listeria. Developing countries have significant issue with A/b resistance

@gargparvesh2011 @DDD_Askenazi @AAPneonatal @neo_twiter @nicupodcast @ASPNeph @asouth_neph Yes, an important issue for sure. I have always wondered why there can't be an alternative to gentamicin. What say you @TripleBadger10 @Aussiekidney @atomic_kidney @mcstarr1 @AbitbolCarolyn @NeonatalKidney
English

Gentamicin being used >50 years as a first line antibiotics in newborns. its clearly toxic to developing kidney. we do monitors levels ,is that enough ! @DDD_Askenazi @drjosflynn @AAPneonatal @AAPneonatal @neo_twiter @nicupodcast @ASPNeph @asouth_neph

There is a paucity of literature on the normative levels of plasma renin concentration (PRC) & serum aldosterone (SA) in premature neonates. Read this Original Article on PRC & SA levels in preterm neonates in the first 2 weeks after birth. #OpenAccess

@Mon4Kooyong Not mandatory for 16&17 year olds, but if they are knowledgeable and want to vote, it’s their future as well as ours
English

I've been meeting with colleagues across the parliament to discuss allowing 16 and 17 year olds the right to vote, to have their say in the decisions made about their future.
What do you think about lowering the voting age?

@MalekaniMD @DGlaucomflecken No white coats in Australia for any doctor/medical student for 25 years - it’s wonderful! No infection risk to patients and reduced white coat syndrome. Occasional confusion but patients mostly know who you are.. saves hospitals $$$. Come down under for a visit @DGlaucomflecken
