The US military is world-class at expeditionary warfare since 1941. But those fights were far from home. Public support drops with rising casualties (majorities says Iraq & Afghanistan weren’t worth it). When your land isn’t directly at stake, tolerance for body bags is lower

Vs China: Galwan 2020 wasn’t a “slap fight.” It was brutal hand-to-hand combat in extreme terrain — 20 Indian soldiers died, yet India held the line without escalating to full war. Chinese side admitted 4 deaths; independent reports suggest far higher losses.
