The worst instance of tanking Iโve seen was the Mavs bowing out of the play-in so they could be in the lotto.
Funnily enough, the solutions Silver is offering would only incentivize this type of tanking more.

@FredThePet @Coopa_Troopa32 Pacers had no chance of competing when Hali, Nesmith, Nembhard, Toppin, McConnell, Mathurin all missed ext time to start the year. Also our center left last second. 7 of our 8 best players last year hurt/gone.

@LegendaryPace They needed two other teams to lose games against awful opponents. The Mavs tanked 2 games youโre complaining about, meanwhile the Pacers and the Jazz are tanking harder than any team of the history of the league. Yโall are going to deserve it when you drop to 5 lottery night.

@jackofarcades I understand the motivations and why they did it. It ultimately was the right move given the pick they got and how much he helped in their Finals run.
But the principle of giving up on the postseason when you have a legit chance to make it is worse than any of the tanking today.

@LegendaryPace The Mavs didn't tank for a better pick, they ranked to keep their protected pick. They also didn't control their destiny for the playin and wouldn't have made it had they won those two games. They needed OKC to lose to a resting Grizzlies team.
