In March 1886, 140 years ago this month, the linen mill workers of Sandy Row formed a football club that, in terms of league titles won (57), would go on to become the most decorated club in the world…

5/5 Details are scarce but it looks like Dickson/Dixon Beattie was only 22 years old. He is buried in the 'Poor ground' in the City Cemetery. This means that not only is his grave totally unmarked, but also the exact location is not recorded. 💙🤍❤️

A sad tale. Yesterday we remembered one of the club's early stars - George Willis. George passed away at a very young age - just 38 (or 40 depending on records) In one of the photos shown yesterday (An Idea's Supplement from 1910) the Linfield team was displayed in.... 1/5

4/5 Only a few months later he passed away. An article in the Belfast Telegraph at the start of March 1910 mentions Dickson. It states that "death has claimed him at an early age, and just in the bloom of youth" and " one who gave such promise of a brilliant career"

3/5 Dickson Beattie only played 8 games for Linfield. Basically the last 4 in the 1908/09 season and the first 4 of the 1909/10 season. Going by the line-up, I believe the photo is actually from Dickson Beattie's final game ( a match against Shelbourne on 11th September 1909)

2/5 ..colour which was very rare for the time. The names listed seemed to be back-to-front ( which is not uncommon in older photos). I wanted to find a photo of 'Beattie' to confirm it was him listed as George Willis. On searching, I discovered a very sad tale 😥

Today we so remember Sammy Hatton who passed away on 20th March 1995 Sammy played for Linfield throughout the 60's winning every trophy available multiple times. One of the heroes of the historic 7 Trophy winning season of 1961/62, Sammy played around 400 times for the... 1/2
