I would like to ask literacy-minded folk what your views are on the use of reading rulers to track (follow) the text for ALL readers at secondary school? I see it could be useful for developing readers but wonder if it might negatively affect proficient readers? @LiteracyCommUK

Thanks to @DamsonEd and @LiteracyCommUK for an insightful session yesterday around reading tests and comprehension. I'd love to know what info schools share with parents following a reading test such as NGRT. Do you send home SAS scores? Stanines? RA? Pls explain your reasons...

Please can I ask what you would consider 'best practice' in supporting students with dyslexia at Secondary school- both on a class-teacher and whole school level? General pedagogy and/ or intervention strategies? Articles/ links welcome. TIA! @LiteracyCommUK

Thoughts? For literacy intervention a colleague has suggested: - toe by toe - teachers4teachers reading boxes - Lexia They seem very ‘american’ to me. Does that matter? Has anyone used them? What did you think? Progress? Tracking? I’ve used toe-by-toe before, years ago

@Suchmo83 @AlexJQuigley @AVisserFuray Maybe as part of whole class reading of a text in English or History for eg? Generally, our current stance is to say only the teacher should read aloud, but lots of students enjoy reading aloud too.

@Litbuilder @AlexJQuigley @AVisserFuray Under what circumstances are they reading aloud ? Is this part of reading lessons? And do other pupils currently read aloud? There are a lot of good reasons why pupils might read aloud (paired fluency practice, sharing their writing, etc). Generally I don't advocate much...

Quick question, if I may? What advice would you give to teachers who have students in their class who want to read aloud to their peers, even though they are not yet fluent in reading for their age? @AlexJQuigley @AVisserFuray @Suchmo83

What do all you wonderful librarians and Secondary Literacy Leads do to positively engage parents? Do you ever share data? Thinking this could be a double-edged sword... all ideas / comments appreciated! @AVisserFuray @lucasjmaxwell @FaithBorkowsky

Looking for articles/ research pertaining to the transition between 'learning to read' and 'reading to learn'. Where should I look in particular? Eternally grateful for any help/ advice! Thanks! 😊
