I would personally go for Wharton and just focus on other positions rather than Tonali + a passer. Happy with Wharton-Bentancur and Gray-Bergvall/Gallagher. Don’t think it’s realistic to sell Gallagher this window, and it’d be stupid to sell Bentancur.

If we can't get the Savinho deal done, I think I'd be comfortable with Nusa as the first alternative. I know he failed a medical before and that is probably asking for trouble given our injury record, but he is a nightmare for opposition defenders - bundles of pace & skill.

With all due respect, Tonali is a water carrier who got labelled as the new Pirlo because Italian and from Brescia. Runs, wins duel, crashes the box, acts as a decoy for the match winners and has a good final ball/set piece delivery. Valuable but doesn't get you a top 5 finish.

@thelittlemans Pretty much exactly what I said about him yesterday. His energy and engine disguises a lot of his failings elsewhere. He won't help any team control a midfield, that's not his game.

Sums up Tonali to a T! When we were missing Bruno, we continued to lose because Tonali, as the post suggests, is a fantastic runner and ball winner, but he can't turn his man in tight spaces or create; his passing is hit or miss. He gave away a lot of dangerous passes last year, which he actually got away with most from memory. Pope was crucified for similar passes, but Tonali escaped it because he's likeable. He does have a hell of a strike on him and should score more actually. His corners are terrible, and set pieces are hit or miss.

@LittleCruyff Yeah that’s me and I stand by what I said. He’s a very good player and he definitely improves us a lot but as you can see from Newcastle fans agreeing with me, he won’t fix the passing issue in midfield.
