A bus fan from Goregaon is ecstatic as the design livery that he suggested for new e-buses of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has been accepted and the new fleet of Olectra buses have now started arriving. MSRTC has one of the largest public transport bus fleets in the country. The buses are a part of one the mega e-bus orders placed the state transport undertaking. Six years after they were first started in Mumbai, the city’s AC EMU local trains are now getting housefull! With an 82.44 pc increase in passengers on Western Railway in a year and 50.48 pc increase in passengers on Central Railway, the demand for AC local trains is multiplying. Along with new office spaces, with about 46 km of Metro lines functional and a drop in passenger numbers post-Covid-19-induced lockdown, the 170-plus-year-old #Mumbai suburban railway system is now on a cusp of change. LC gate at Vithalwadi that had a traffic density of about six lakh road vehicles per annum detaining suburban & long-distance trains on Central Railway (CR) was permanently shut last week after a road bridge was opened for traffic.
