Remember to keep your heels down and your eyes up. Your horse follows your focus, you are their guide.

Did you know? A horse's walk covers about 4 mph, trots covers 8-12 mph, and a gallop can exceed 30 mph! They can be very fast!

Be mindful of your riding surroundings, especially on trails or in busy areas. Stay alert to avoid hazards and sudden movements. You want to prevent your horse from being startled as much as possible.

Did you know the more experience you have as a rider, the easier it gets to handle your horse? You will be able to communicate with your horse more easily, as well as provide calmer energy. This will make them less likely to be startled.

Tension in your body can affect your horse’s movement negatively. Try to relax and move with your horse as much as possible. Your horse will respond to you better and your ride will be much smoother.

When riding, your stirrups should allow just the ball of your foot to rest on them, with your heel dropped low. This will keep you secure and reduce foot fatigue.

If your stirrups feel too long, you’ll find it harder to post at the trot. Adjust them accordingly so you can easily rise and sit without straining your legs. A comfortable and easier ride is always ideal.

For a smoother ride, maintain light pressure on your stirrups. If you grip too tightly, you can throw off your balance and make your horse uncomfortable. Try it out!

A solid foundation is key when riding. Master basic riding skills such as walking, trotting, and halting before progressing to more advanced techniques.

Remember to stay hydrated when riding, especially in hot weather. Drinking plenty of water helps maintain the elasticity of your muscles and joints which can reduce discomfort. It will make your ride smoother.

Build up your back and core strength with exercises like planks and yoga. A strong core will help you stay stable in the saddle and reduce back pain.

If your lower back hurts after riding, try adjusting your stirrup length. Stirrups that are too short or too long can affect your posture and balance negatively. Stay comfortable when riding!
