The U.S. horse racing scene is cruising straight toward trouble. Legal battles are popping up left and right, like Churchill Downs refusing to pay HISA fees, while the big-money players keep calling the shots. Meanwhile, the suits on the bridge are patting themselves on the back, acting like everything’s fine. But here’s the reality: the sport’s facing a full-on iceberg if changes don’t happen fast. Transparency? Fair play? Those are taking a back seat to profits and politics, and the everyday fans and smaller owners are the ones feeling the heat.

ATTN ALL HORSE RACING STAKEHOLDERS: LEADERSHIP WAS IN THE ROOM… AND STILL NO ANSWERS. Credit to Aron Wellman for stepping into the room, asking direct questions, and engaging in good faith on issues that matter to the future of this sport. In his “Strike 3” letter, he met with: Terry Finley Bill Farish Jim Gagliano The people with @jockeyclub who have the power to act. Read the letter: 485699.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na1.net/hubfs/485699/T… And after that meeting? Still no answers. Still no transparency. Still no accountability. So let’s be direct: Why are real questions treated as attacks? Why is transparency so difficult? Why won’t leadership engage publicly with stakeholders? Why does it feel like protecting the system takes priority over fixing the sport? Where is the accountability to the owners, trainers, bettors, and breeders who fund this industry? Why has there been no clear response to the growing list of unanswered questions? Because from the outside, it’s starting to look like the system not the sport is the priority. We’re not going away. REFORM IS COMING. REPOST AND SPEAK OUT!

The @JockeyClub just keeps showing everyone exactly how this game is really being run. Jockey Club owned BloodHorse is reporting that HISA, an organization created through the draftsmanship of Jockey Club Steward Bill Lear and funded by Jockey Club forgiven loans, is now threatening to shut off Churchill Downs’ signal if they don’t pay. The Jockey Club creates it. The Jockey Club funds it. The Jockey Club controls it. And now the Jockey Club is using it. The hearing tied to this situation was led by a panel that included the brother in law of Jockey Club Steward Bill Lear, who sits on the Jockey Club funded HISA Board of Directors. The Jockey Club funded HISA general counsel is a former partner at Jockey Club Steward Bill Lear’s law firm and also the son-in-law of the former interim executive director of HISA, who ran Jockey Club owned Equibase for 20 years. Jockey Club. Jockey Club. Jockey Club. Same people. Same circle. Same influence. Enough is F$&kin Enough!!!!! We are all Team Churchill here!!!!! HISA attacking Churchill is as stupid as the Jockey Club attacking me. What do you think???
BloodHorse@BloodHorse

A HISA board panel decision requests Churchill Downs Inc. pay millions of dollars in unpaid assessment fees or face the prospect of losing race dates. Read more: go.bloodhorse.com/4bgkRtP @BH_FAngst #TC2026

Everyone has a right to know. They think if they hunker down this will all just blow on by and everyone will give up. We cannot let that happen.

The orgs are doing extraordinary work under conditions that can only be described as triage. The small, unglamorous operations that take the horses no one else will take and do it on fundraising budgets that wouldn’t cover a week of entry fees - pastthewire.com/all-ahead-full…

John Stettin is by far the best writer out there and not afraid to publish the truth about the real issues. As an organization that has been helping and rescuing thoroughbreds from the slaughter pipeline for years, we can tell you how incredibly tough it is with no industry support or participation to help thoroughbreds in this situation. It is a disgrace when thoroughbreds keep ending up at feedlots and there is total silence from the Jockey Club, NTRA, Breeders Cup and many others industry leaders. As president of our organization and a former owner/trainer and someone who grew up on the racetrack, I love and respect thoroughbreds. Anyone in the business who does not respect a thoroughbred should not be in it in our opinion. None of the Powers that Be in the industry like the Jockey Club, Breeders Cup, NTRA, etc would even have a job if it were not for the horses. All of us owe the horses everything. Some of us have shown our respect, dedication and devotion for thoroughbreds with our sweat, worry, tears, long hours, exhaustion & begging for funds to save thoroughbreds when they are in trouble. In addition, to advocating for change for the horses for years such as a creating a National Thoroughbred Tracking Database, Emergency Fund, programs to circumvent thoroughbreds, especially senior broodmares from ending up in the pipeline, more sanctuary farms, etc. Programs that cover all thoroughbreds not just the ones that can go in to a second career. They all cannot have a second career and to think a second career is the ONLY answer to aftercare is unrealistic. So many things should have been done over the years to protect the horses better and could still be done but will not happen as long as the Jockey Club keeps burying their head in the sand and think they already have it covered when they really don't. Not even close. @PastTheWire @jockeyclub @NTRA @LightUpRacing @RepoleStable @PatCummingsNTA @EponaInitiative @theTDN @AronWellman7 @ThoroughbredRA @westlakeracing

You gotta admit that @jockeyclub & @Grayson_JC does more for horse health & safety than anybody else. Equine injury database, millions for aftercare, "but for" TJC there is no @hisa_us and a host of other stuff like the Welfare & Safety Summit. Can't understand the screeching critics who blow up racing twitter feeds. Be there in June. #aftercare
