@almonk @tldraw @poolsideai It reminds me of balsamiq.com days. Love (and miss) the limitations that force thought and action over configuration and tweaks. Wasn't there another early UI app called Blackbird (or something) as well?

currently using @tldraw for project management as we build out poolside, and forreal it's the best. a virtual whiteboard that's 100x more fun to collab on, glance at and tick things off than a list.

@jamestplunkett I keep thinking (perhaps first triggered by End State) the same. Another revolutionary GDS-like push is what’s needed, with a UCD focus on procurement and policy rather than just/predominantly UI. A redesign of the tending process wouldn’t go amiss also

How are these firms still bleeding the public sector nearly 15 years on from GDS determining to end the stranglehold of Big IT? Another push on capabilities (procurement/lawyers, etc) to extricate from these contracts would have such a good ROI. (/End)

A reminder that Big IT still stalks the land... About 15 years ago Citizens Advice exited painfully from an appalling legacy IT system ran by CGI. A real horror show monolith, designed to a spec doc hundreds of pages long, unstable, appalling UX, etc., etc. (1/n)

It took a while, but I seem to have found my own small network of folks around here with a similar set of values. Or at the very least, people who don’t call me a c💜nt if we disagree. Instead of feeling like an EcHo ChAmBeR it actually gives me hope. And hope’s important, right?

@vickytnz The swimming image reads right to me but the squirrel one needs switching I think. We (identifying as the interaction designer here!) are the reds. Those greys are coming for us. And no lie, but as I wrote this look who was watching me outside!!

@MathewWilson Arrgh I knew that red is good and grey is bad, somehow flipped that when when writing the notes! (The image at least is correct). Will correct now, thanks!

@vickytnz very much enjoyed your post here vickyteinaki.com/blog/responsib… but I think you’ve got the squirrel metaphor the wrong way round. Greys are the ‘new’ species killing our resident reds.

Which reminds me of the ironically named redsquirrelbooks.com (publishers of Life in the UK study guides) set up by a talented (grey squirrel) Kiwi founder!

@thompsonsimon @MathewWilson You can fold in accessibility too incredibly easily. Eg, round shower taps that are hard to grip

Again and again I find there is no field of design with more arrogance and less ability than people who design taps.

@dvc Same, but recently started. Like just now at Le Shuttle with this trend of making you wave your hands under mirrors, only to find after soaping that there’s no water

I see a lot of beautifully crafted products which fail to find users, and I see a lot of mediocre products which explode. As such, I think good sales people need to focus more on product and good product people need to focus more on sales.

Oh my! You’re right. I was talking about the desktop app. Mobile is a bit of a weird case due to Apple guidelines we kept it all very much focused on the trial/free plan. But the reading mode should definitely give you an upsell modal. Is that broken for you? Also: If you swipe to the right on the main grid, you’re able to access the settings screen. But if you do consider subscribing, I’d kindly ask you to do it on desktop via access.mymind.com (it’s more expensive through Apple and we sadly can’t help you as much as Apple then controls the entire billing). Hope this helps! And let me know about reading mode, we want to make sure it works on mobile. And I’ll make sure to let the team know to improve upgrade possibilities via mobile. Agree with you, it’s all a bit hidden there.
