I’ve just launched my first podcast. It’s called The Design VC. It’s about the intersection of creativity + capital, and how design shapes early-stage startups (for better and worse). First episodes: @destraynor (Intercom), @jakek + @jazer, @katearonowitz (GV).

I personally like the look of the new Ferrari Luce by Jonny Ives, but charging is a bit of a pain.

A better diagnosis would include: Fragmented markets. Less late-stage capital. Weaker stock-option culture. Fewer giant domestic tech buyers. Less aggressive public procurement. Lower risk appetite. Less founder upside. Fewer repeat scale-up operators. That’s more realistic.

There’s a familiar Libertarian story about Europe: Too much bureaucracy. Too much regulation. Too many worker protections. Too much privacy law. That’s why Europe doesn’t produce as many tech giants. It’s a neat argument. I’m just not sure it survives contact with detail.
