Recent Golden Slipper winner Guest House just casually walking around the Gold Coast sale ring last year. He sold for $270,000 and the rest is history. This is the only sale ring that has produced a colt to win the Slipper this millennium. #PureMagic #LifeChangers

Two Sales, One Reality: Why This Hit Home for Me I will be honest, this one is personal. You can read all the breakdowns from the Australian Easter Yearling Sale and the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and think you have a handle on it. Numbers, percentages, headlines, it is all there. But for me, being there in person changed everything. I had the privilege of attending both sales, and more importantly, being around some of the best minds and judges in this industry. Not just seeing it, but actually feeling it. Listening to the conversations, watching the inspections, picking up on the little details that you just do not get from the outside. And the truth is, it humbled me. It made me realise just how much goes into every decision in this space. The level of thought, the discipline, the confidence it takes to back your own judgement, or just as importantly, to walk away. That is what stuck with me. But more than anything, it reinforced something I have always felt, my love for the breeding side of this industry. Because when I stood there watching those yearlings go through, I could not just see them as sale lots. I kept thinking about where they started. The planning behind them. The risks taken. The decisions made years ago that led to that exact moment. That part of it, that is what really hit me. It made it real. Being around people who can break a horse down so quickly, who can tie pedigree and type together with such clarity, it gives you a different level of appreciation. And for me, it did not just impress me, it pulled me in even deeper. I found myself thinking less about the sale result, and more about how the horse even got there in the first place. That is the part I love. The breeding. The thinking. The long term vision. Because anyone can talk about what a horse sells for. But not everyone understands what it took to create it. And being in that environment, around people who live and breathe that side of things, just reinforced to me that this is where my passion really sits. It also made me respect the industry more than I probably ever have. Not in a surface level way, but in a real way. Because this is not easy. There is pressure everywhere. Expectations everywhere. And right now, in a more selective market, there is nowhere to hide. You either get it right, or you do not. And seeing how people handle that, the calmness, the confidence, the willingness to stand by their decisions, that left an impression on me. I also want to say thank you. Thank you to everyone who took the time to have a conversation, to explain their thinking, and to answer any questions I had. That did not go unnoticed. In an environment where everyone is under pressure and focused on their own decisions, the willingness to share knowledge and insight says a lot about the people in this industry, and I am genuinely grateful for it. So yes, the numbers might say the top end took a step back. But from where I stood, I saw something else. I saw an industry that is sharp. An industry that is thinking. An industry that demands respect. And personally, walking away from both sales, I feel more connected to it than ever. Not just as an observer, but as someone who genuinely loves the breeding side of this industry. Because that is where it all begins. And after experiencing it the way I have, that passion has not just stayed the same it has grown.
