@iliedownatnoon @_iamjamila While I do think there needs to be reform on the business side of prisons, it still takes someone doing a crime to get in there. I’m just saying they might as well do productive work while in there instead of sitting around all day.

@MidwestRight @_iamjamila You should do some research, starting off with The GEO Group and CoreCivic. 10% of our prison population are managed by for-profit private organizations that have contracts that guarantee their prisons be full. It incentivizes bad policing and arrests.

Guy Rivera shot Officer Diller after being asked why he had parked at a bus stop. Rivera was a career criminal with 21 prior arrests and had previously been arrested on gun charges. When the mixed verdict was first announced, it was an emotional moment for Diller’s family and fellow officers, especially when one juror noted that the verdict was not unanimous. The judge ordered the juror to deliberate again, but they returned with the same not guilty verdict. Rivera was convicted on four lesser charges, including aggravated manslaughter, attempted murder, and weapon possession.

I fucking hate the “minimum wage is for high schoolers” talking point. A. No it isn’t, that’s historically inaccurate. B. Telling a kid to work hard and earn money the “right” way, then turning around and saying he deserves less just because of his age is bullshit. Pay should be based on performance. Nothing else. If you’re against raising the minimum wage, that’s fine. Make a better argument that isn’t belittling kids trying to work hard and earn something for themselves.
