The current practice of making police officers commit those records to memory and forcing them to recite them by rote makes a mockery of the trial. Having to pretend to be able to recall incidents which happened in the distant past calls integrity into question.

In addition to providing police with the convenience of testifying via a/v link perhaps the courts can start making use of s 109 of the Evidence Act which allows police eyewitnesses to be lead by contemporaneous records of what they saw.

As per the Referendum Act and Articles 167 and 170 of the Constitution, EC must fix and announce a referendum only after carefully considering the application and ensuring that a fair vote can be conducted. If the question in the application lacks clarity, or if a fair referendum cannot be conducted within the timeframe requested by the applicant, then EC should reject it. Here, the opposite happened. The EC treated the application as an order and arranged its work according to the timeline set out in the application. This resulted in violations of several other rights, including the right to vote and the right to meaningful participation in the affairs of the State. It’s Article 111 that defines the percentage and how people should elect president. 🔹Changing 50% rule to 45% does NOT require a referendum. 🔹Changing 50% rule to a preferential voting does NOT require a referendum.
