Unfortunately, as South Africans we do not travel enough within Africa, and pay very little attention to life above the Limpopo river. It shows.

It has been a very difficult week for @BafanaBafana players. The emotional trauma was visible last night when the captain was responding to questions from the media about the online attacks the team has experienced. Itโ€™s good to see @OfficialPSL supporting the team because majority of the players are from the PSL and are expected to continue to contribute to a building strong league after the World Cup. As Africa let us all support @BafanaBafana tonight. Let us continue to rally behind all African teams. To the DR Congo and Ghana congratulations well done. to the teams. #WorldCup2026 #AfricanTeams

@FahadAmirN You summarised nonsenseโ€ฆfirst and foremost, South African law states that a foreigner must invest 5million upwards in a business. Now this man is running a hair-cutting salon(known as small-business) which is meant for the locals. Why do you skip the most important rule?

@_falsi1ke Why do you insist on asking these divisive questions? The worst thing we as Africans can do is turn against one another. We have suffered enough at the hands of history and continue to face many common challenges today. Our future depends on greater unity, not deeper division.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus
It is profoundly heartbreaking to witness another surge of xenophobic violence in #SouthAfrica this week. Hundreds have marched on Parliament, thousands of families have been displaced, and lives have been tragically cut short. These include at least five Ethiopians killed earlier in the attacks, and five Mozambicans who died in Mossel Bay. Thousands more are now fleeing for their lives. To see South Africa turn to xenophobia is a tragic betrayal of the country's struggle for independence and freedom. African nations stood united to dismantle apartheid. Ethiopia proudly supported "Madiba," Nelson Mandela, in 1962 and issued him a passport so he could travel the continent. Other countries helped in many ways, including with political and financial support. Disagreements and grievances must be addressed by the justice system and the rule of law, never through vigilante violence and collective punishment. South Africa deserves better. Africa deserves better. Stop the hate. Protect the vulnerable. Uphold our shared humanity.

An Open Letter from the People of South Africa ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Dear Brothers and Sisters across the African Continent, We, the people of South Africa, write to you today with heavy hearts, deep humility, and sincere remorse. As fellow Africans bound by shared history, culture, struggles, and dreams, we reach out to ask for your forgiveness. In recent years, our country has witnessed shameful episodes of xenophobia acts of violence, discrimination, and hostility directed at our African brothers and sisters who came to South Africa seeking safety, opportunity, or a better life. These incidents do not represent the true spirit of Ubuntu that defines us: โ€œI am because we are.โ€ They betray the values of solidarity and hospitality that our ancestors fought for during the liberation struggles. We acknowledge the pain, fear, and betrayal many of you have felt. We condemn these acts unequivocally and stand with you in mourning the lives lost and the dignity wounded. We are truly sorry. We apologise without reservation or excuse. No economic hardship, no frustration, no political rhetoric can justify turning against our own. You are not foreigners in our hearts you are family. From Nigerians, Zimbabweans, Somalis, Congolese, Ghanaians, Mozambicans, and every corner of our beautiful continent, we have received your talent, your entrepreneurship, your music, your ideas, and your resilience. You have enriched us. Today we ask you, from the bottom of our collective soul, to forgive us. Let us heal these wounds together and recommit to the African unity our forefathers envisioned. As we do so, we also humbly ask for your support in the remaining games of the World Cup. Our national team, Bafana Bafana, carries not only South Africaโ€™s hopes but the pride of the entire continent on the global stage. Every goal we score, every victory we earn, belongs to Africa. Your cheers, your prayers, your positive energy from homes, stadiums, and social media across the continent would mean more to us than you can imagine. Let us turn this moment into one of unity: let the world see Africans standing together, celebrating one another, and proving that our shared identity is stronger than any division. We commit ourselves to doing better to building a South Africa that welcomes, protects, and uplifts every African who walks among us. We commit to teaching our children the true meaning of African brotherhood and to holding our leaders accountable for policies that reflect compassion and justice. Thank you for listening to our apology. Thank you for the grace you have already shown us in the past. We look forward to a future where Africans move together, win together, and rise together. With profound respect, regret, and hope The People of South Africaโ€จ (From Cape Town to Musina, from Durban to Johannesburg one nation reaching out to our African family)

Yesterdayโ€™s FIFA World Cup Opening showed what this handful of hateful Ntelezi idiots have done for South Africaโ€™s international reputation and decades of goodwill. All the genuine outrage against illegal immigration has drowned under their violent acts, human rights violations and threats while they run around the country barefoot telling us they are โ€œmenโ€ Decades of goodwill built on international solidarity, opposition to Israeli genocide in Palestine, cooperation with other nations, gone to dust. Football is a global language where even politics find expression, and these jokes about how SA at the World Cup is in a โ€œrush to go home and defend their jobs and womenโ€ or how โ€œThey canโ€™t attack Mexico because they are not African and Blackโ€ - this is not only banter, itโ€™s political satire It shows how the world view is shifting towards viewing South Africa as a hub of hate, something that has never been part of our identity. I mean we are being compared to Argentina and Morocco, who have committed human rights atrocities against Africans respectively. The State should take responsibility for allowing hate groups which stop children at clinics, schools, beat people and in some instances incite murder, to define our international identity. Itโ€™s not a joke, and we cannot banter our way out of it. Itโ€™s a stain. South Africa being regarded as the hate capital of Africa at a FIFA World Cup would have been unimaginable in 2010. Israel is smiling wherever it is, because its mission accomplished. We have lost our moral authority on the global stage.
