Something a lot of people don't see. Trump thinks US troops in Germany are there to protect Germany. They're not. They're there because the US needs the bases to be able to carry out US operations beyond the north American continent. Trump doesn't understand this basic fact.

Their program is: -deindustrialization to save the environment; - demilitarization to save peace; - open borders to save immigrants. None of that would be saved, we would just commit suicide.

You should also consider that until 1861, within Italy there were actual kingdoms and state entities.

@NeonPrinceps @euromaximal Either Brussels can compel Italy to: "cut benefits and build military" or it can't. Can it compel Italy to deploy troops to fight in the Falklands or not? You extra-national abilities, while trying to retain national sovereignty. Comparing states within a country is different.

A more united Europe is a necessity for the survival of individual European nations. There’s no way each country could survive when hegemonic empires like Russia, China and the US have so much power. Only united does Europe have a chance 🇪🇺

@FoghJohn @euromaximal I know, it’s not easy. But again, every union/confederation does this. I’m Italian, there are similar discussions between wealthier and poorer regions inside Italy, and it’s united since 1861.

Or we can choose to sacrifice all national interests in favour of China, Russia, and the USA. It’s not a hard choice. Americans have already done it.
