No doctor working today is worth 21% less than in 2008. A first year doctor working through the night to give life saving treatment to all our loved ones is worth more than £18.62/hour All we are asking is they are paid £22.67/ hour. It’s a bargain @LidlGB @wesstreeting

Support from the @ASLEFunion General Secretary and Chair of Labour Unions is a reminder of the solidarity that runs deep in the trade union movement. Our ask is fair: move a fully qualified doctor from £18.62/hr to £22.67/hr over time. That’s still modest for critical work.

Love it when politicians suggest these great novel ideas like a deal over a number of years/ a “multi year pay round”

Good Morning Britain@GMB

Nurses are expected to reject the government's 3.6% pay offer when the result of a vote by members of the Royal College of Nursing is revealed today. @Kategarraway, @edballs, Kwasi Kwarteng and @JonAshworth discuss the prospect of further strikes across the NHS later this year.

There’s a scandal unfolding in the NHS. Thousands of doctors are being locked out of training jobs; left unemployed, unable to become GPs or consultants. All while patients wait months for care. @wesstreeting knows this. So why is he refusing to act? thetimes.com/uk/healthcare/…

@Wouldbescouse @KemiBadenoch @NHS @BMAResidents Not insatiable no. The pay rise we got takes us part way to restore our pay, I.e part of our ask. What we are asking for is the rest of it, over a number of years. As we have been saying from the start. Our ask has never changed Restore our pay, end the dispute.

@Wouldbescouse @KemiBadenoch @NHS @BMAResidents But the status quo is unsustainable. The continued exodus of doctors from the NHS will only lead to much bigger problems down the line. You can’t have an NHS without having enough doctors A deal across several years is all it will take

Doctors' assistants are earning almost 47% more than a fully qualified doctor in London. Even with full pay restoration, doctors would still be earning less than their assistants. Paying doctors £22.67/hr would still be a bargain for this country.

@Wouldbescouse @KemiBadenoch @NHS @BMAResidents Again, it not about pay structure, it’s about real terms erosion of pay as seen here. Nobody knew when applying for university our pay would drop this much in real terms. Structure of pay is an entirely different question altogether and not what this dispute is about

@Wouldbescouse @KemiBadenoch @NHS @BMAResidents That’s not the point though. It’s not personal pay erosion. It’s the ongoing trajectory of pay erosion the entire profession has seen. If we don’t take a stand now it won’t stop, pay will fall further , more and more doctors will leave and then what will happen?

@Wouldbescouse @KemiBadenoch @NHS @BMAResidents This isn’t about pay structure, which is well known of course, no one is disputing that. This is about pay erosion which was not known or predictable. More pay erosion than the rest of the public sector. Restore that over a number of years, that’s not unreasonable

@Wouldbescouse @KemiBadenoch @NHS After 2008, the point isn’t my personal pay. The point is the erosion of the entire professions pay. Who will become doctors to work in the NHS if the pay continues to fall? How will you retain doctors? What will happen to the NHS then?
