The English truly are a remarkable people. They are genetically a mixture of Celtic and Germanic, speak a language that is grammatically Germanic but mostly Romance in vocabulary and have a culture which is also arguably a mixture of these elements. I don't see them as being truly Germanic, not because I don't like them, but because they don't really fit into any other box. They are their own category. I suppose with Anglo-descended ethnic groups like the Americans, Australians, Rhodesians, Canadians etc. they form their own category, and it's one of the biggest genetic, linguistic and cultural families on earth, which spans multiple continents and islands. I know we Boers have historical grievances with them, but if anything, that makes me respect them even more, because they were the strongest foe we ever faced, and gave us the opportunity to win honour fighting them.
