Talking about health tech and how it all (should) work together. I also like sports. No longer wears glasses.

I wrote this, and I agonized over just about every word - nervous to share it with the world. The early responses have meant a lot. Thanks for giving it a read.

I had an unusually high # of convos this week noting how crazy EOY will be (and I concur). The pace this industry moves in certain areas is breakneck, but the wheels of change are still slow in some crucial others. Soon the wheels can’t be that slow, else be replaced by rockets.

CVS’ plan to close 900 stores is important to watch. They may have the best vantage points of consumer behavior in healthcare.

@healthcareandy I’m certainly intrigued by Mark Cuban’s new PBM venture focusing on radical price transparency, even though many may scoff at it.

80% of PBM business is owned by 3 companies: Optum, Express Scripts and CVS Caremark. Each of them is directly affiliated with a massive health insurance plan. I’m not sure what will actually disrupt them at scale.

@techguy Agreed. I think their approach gives them an advantage from a storytelling perspective big time, and I have to think anything that makes it easier for patients to take that first step is a net positive for the world.

@NotaroUntangle When you look at the industry around mental health testing, this is an extremely novel approach. I hope they're successful. I always felt odd paying for all these screener exams for the counseling center I worked at. They were stored on a parallel port device.

This is spot on. A major challenge is that many provider orgs run like government, where even though flattening and modernizing a huge cost center is the right move, the wheels of bureaucracy are extra slow to turn (especially where there are likely to be internal power shifts).

Why are IT departments so large compared to more advanced industries? Why do hospitals have so many chiefs and layers of management? Flatten the organization and reinvest in digital.

How exactly is it that the #digitalhealth market is on track to be a ~$650 billion market in 2025 and healthcare has yet to be transformed by it.

@healthcareandy People are only just beginning to understand the scale of healthcare expenditure on the horizon if the proverbial game continues to follow its same old rules.

The entire GLOBAL digital ad spend (e.g., FB, Google, Snapchat, Twitter) is $300 billion. That’s about how much America spends treating 30 million diabetics.

I haven’t done a good enough job of tweeting our content. We’re really trying to bring insight to a broader audience on questions that we get often with our clients or peers. Please let me know what you think... #Untangle #Interoperability

It can be tough to get a layperson's overview of the ONC Cures Act Final Rule (first deadline April 5). For anyone asking "what the heck do I need to know?" - here's a quick overview to get you started: untanglehealth.com/content-to-pon… #ONC #CuresAct #DigitalHealth #Interoperability
