If you want to learn Japanese, start by listening to Japanese carefully and repetitively. My Japanese Grandfather learned English by listening to west coast American radio daily. He didn't understand anything at first, but over time he began to notice the patterns and phonetics of English. He taught all his students to learn like that too. Obviously, you will still need to study the grammar and vocabulary, but you will have a much easier time.
