Most football accounts tell you who scored. I'm more interested in who got paid. @AmosMurphy_ As long as there’s demand and the offer remains limited, the prices go up. Unfair? Yes. Very much.

@laligaandbeyond Indeed a worhy comparison. It’s impressive though, how it seems that the only way to push sporting performance, as of today, is to keep investing millions into an obvious unsustainable business. The day will come when the business model starts shifting.

La Liga & Beyond@laligaandbeyond·
Clubs continue to spend and spend huge sums chasing dreams or sometimes just trying to keep the lights on. Only time will tell whether the financial controls LaLiga implements help long term and how the English system holds up with this level of spending. As a fan I would feel far more comfortable knowing my club will be run sustainably and be here in 20-30 years time rather than spending hundreds of millions and constantly relying on an owner to dip their hands into their pockets to keep the club going.

The situation looks even worse at the operating level (excluding profit on player sales, interest and exceptional items), where not a single club has reported a profit. Average operating losses: Premier League £66.7m, Championship £25.5m, League One £6.2m, League Two £2.8m.

@SwissRamble And these are the results in the country with, by far, the biggest gross earnings by broadcasting. Makes you think if there’s something fundamentally wrong with the business model behind football 🧐

Just over half of the 92 clubs in top 4 divisions in England have published 2024/25 accounts. Only 4 are profitable: Liverpool, Bournemouth, Plymouth Argyle and Peterborough United. Average pre-tax losses: PL £31.1m, Championship £15.1m, League One £5.0m, League Two £2.6m.

@KieranMaguire The prevented transfer of Morgan Gibbs-White could’ve changed things. Solid results though.

Nottingham Forest had a £71m pre tax loss in 24/25 Revenue ⬆️ by over £30m and wages only slight change but lack of player sale profits and high interest charges turned last years £10m profit into a big loss.

@SwissRamble Very interesting results. Bournemouth are slowly becoming a clear example of how to achieve financial growth through a structured, planned, and finely executed scouting and sporting performance. Huijsen, Zabarnyi, Kerkez… all developed in a year by Iraola. Impressive work!

The ownership has cited Atalanta publicly as their reference point. A small-city club. No superstar owners. Just consistent recruitment, a clear identity, and patience. Como are attempting the same destination via a faster, better-capitalised route.

Two seasons ago, Como 1907 were in Serie B. This week they beat Pisa 5-0 and sit 4th in Serie A, one point above Juventus, nine games from Champions League football. The financial story behind this is unlike anything else in European football 🧵🟠

@thePoS_007 @KieranMaguire The financial catastrophe exceeds the sporting one. If Spurs’ relegation confirmed we’d be at the feet of a once-in-a-lifetime downfall!

📉Spur of the moment: £350mn at stake #THFC 24/25 pre-tax losses were £128mn (UEFA) They'll have a £350mn financial hole to plug in order to comply with Championship P&S rules Cash flow was already pressured. If ENIC need to provide more money, will the Lewis family provide it all or will Levy be asked for his share? bit.ly/4bIXRCK

@KieranMaguire Now that’s an interesting case: why do they refuse to lend the London Stadium? Simply because it’d collide with their football season in Septmeber. But, West Ham doesn’t own the stadium, they lease it! Their contractual agreement protects home matches, so their case “holds” 🧐

@SkySportsPL One of those instances where respect and club values surpassed an otherwise dominant business mindset. Right or wrong decision? No one can tell. But it feels good to see giant clubs appreciate their legends as people, and not assets!
