@KristiTalmadge @newhavenindy Yes I see your point and you’re right. They do cut the most visible and high profile parts instead of the superfluous and truly unnecessary parts. I do think they have reduced fare or subsidized fare for students on the city buses but yes, I see what you’re saying.

School transportation is the wrong part of the budget to cut. It's hard to get a lot of these kids out of the house and off to school to begin with. Who's going to pay for their city transit bus cards? I helped kids sometimes with bus money in Hartford because the city wasn't paying for that for all the kids. This is a bad idea for New Haven imo

This looks like another example of the bloated school budgets. No doubt there are many, many pet projects that could be cut. I would think some kids can take city transit. The thing is, out in the suburbs, you see lines of cars, parents picking up their kids like personal taxis when school buses do exist 🙄. But you do bring up an interesting possibility.

@newhavenindy We have to get this on the bigger news stations because New Haven's next problem is going to be complaining about significantly increased truancy rates. That's what this is going to lead to. When our HS kids aren't in school, they find other things less appropriate to do.
