Florida transfer Olivier Rioux has committed to UC Irvine, per his IG page. 7-9 big man should flourish under Russell Turner, who has done a tremendous job with big men in the Big West.

The logic-defying peace and confidence in @BenSasse is something everyone should watch. Only Jesus Christ can produce this kind of response in a human facing mortality.

On Tuesday, Mets owner @StevenACohen2 reached out to me to discuss the Nimmo trade, Jewish Heritage Night, Mamdani, and a few other issues that have recently spread across the media and social media, in large part because of my Tweets. First, let me say that Mr. Cohen is an incredibly gracious and down to earth guy. From the beginning our conversation was extremely friendly…and enjoyable. He answered ALL of my questions (when he didn’t have any obligation to call me to begin with), and, honestly, he’s just a likable, reasonable guy with an open mind. He’s the kind of guy that anyone would love to have a beer with. But let’s get to brass tacks. When I get something very wrong, I need to come clean and admit it. After speaking with Mr. Cohen, there is not a doubt in my mind that there was nothing political about any of the personnel decisions made with the Mets. In other words, I was wrong. I relied on speculation put out as fact by several sportscasters who should know better. I offer my sincere apologies to the Mets and to Mr. Cohen for relying on those false claims and getting it dead wrong in my Tweets. I genuinely feel very bad about that. Finally, Mr. Cohen explained the Heritage Nights to me in a way that made perfect sense. While he is not even involved in scheduling those nights and there were very good reasons that some have not happened since 2023, he understands why Jewish people are feeling especially vulnerable and erased right now and he and the Mets are clearly committed to making sure that Jewish recognition does continue to happen in a meaningful way. I’d also like to share with my Jewish friends something they may not know, which is that Mr. Cohen has built two PTSD centers in Israel (and is now working on a third) for victims in need. I truly believe that the Mets are in great hands. Steven Cohen listens, cares, is open-minded, and is willing to adjust when he sees things that make anyone feel hurt or excluded. I think we’re all going to see really great things as he continues to steward this organization. I bleed Orange and Blue and it’s going to stay that way forever. My apologies and thanks to Steven Cohen. (Photo is from meeting him by chance at a game a couple of years ago).

Not surprisingly, these court cases often center on same-sex parents, that is, not parents who are divorced, or divorced and remarried, or have children out of wedlock, or aren't in comformity with Catholic teachings in many other ways. What about, e.g., denying an education to a child of a parent who committed white-collar crime? Or the child of a parent who is not paying a just wage? It's the selectivity of these cases that many LGBTQ people notice. Moreover, a child should not be denied an education for any perceived failings of the parents. If Catholic schools provided education only to the children of sinless parents whose lives were 100% in conformity with church teachings, the classrooms would be empty. nytimes.com/2026/04/20/us/…

Good Lord. This frames the issue as if the Church is punishing children for the sins of their parents, and that’s not what’s happening. A Catholic school isn’t just a neutral service provider. It’s part of the Church’s mission. Parents aren’t simply enrolling a child for academics, they’re entering into a partnership to support what the school teaches, especially on foundational truths like marriage and the family. The comparison to white collar crime or unjust wages misses the mark. Those are real sins, but they are not typically lived out as a public identity that the school is being asked to affirm and reinforce. That’s the key distinction, private moral failure versus a visible, ongoing contradiction to what the school is tasked to teach. No one is requiring sinless parents. If that were the standard, as you said, classrooms would be empty. The issue is coherence, not perfection. There’s a difference between struggling with sin and asking the institution to affirm something the Church teaches is not true. A Catholic school cannot teach one thing about the human person and marriage while being expected to validate the opposite at the same time. That’s not education, that’s confusion. So this isn’t about “selectivity,” it’s about integrity. If that line disappears, the school stops being authentically Catholic.

No shot the reason St. John’s has had such a slow, quiet start to the transfer portal is because our new GM isn’t totally sure what he’s doing, right??? I mean Ostrom hasn’t even committed to being the GM past this offseason & has no prior experience in this type of role. #SJUBB

SHOULD WE SEND THE POPE TO NEGOTIATE WITH IRAN? Director of Priests for Life @FrFrankPavone suggests maybe the Pope should negotiate with the Iranians, since he is so opposed to war, rather than criticizing the U.S. and President Trump for engaging in conflict with the bloodthirsty Iranian regime.
