if it’s any consolation, threads is an even more intense implementation of this, but with far more people, many of whom are facebook and IG refugees who have stumbled into the room and have no idea what’s going on

this is basically the direction social has gone in for years and for twitter probably would have been a solution to its problem of keeping people engaged
but it also flattens any sort of diversity of an interesting feed into mush
i preferred when the learning curve was steeper

of the changes i find grating re: twitter, the algorithm being tweaked to become a mash of tiktok and facebook has to be near the top
these recommendation algorithms pick up on your slightest preference (liking a post) and proceed to force feed it to you thenceforth

ICYMI this from my AMA yesterday. We’ve decided to retain existing Horizon Worlds in VR for the foreseeable future. I know this is a bit of whiplash just a few days after we announced something different, but Horizon has some real fans in the VR community and they encouraged us to reconsider our decision.

this is an attractive argument for executives who are not talking to people across the country uniting to push back on some of the data center projects coming to their communities
i'd argue actually talking to people rather than sneering would be a better long term approach

I’m skeptical working class voters have any opinion on tech and tech bros. Look at Amazon having insane consumer support. The anti-tech slopulism is driven by an internecine grievance of educated elites getting economically outcompeted by their tech peers.

@loganb the tension part of all of this is really something i find interesting. i imagine people dont wrestle with the contradiction regularly because one has to live in the world and use things.
i dont feel as confident as where you seem to have landed but i think about it a lot lately

am looking at your original tweet and you are homing in on tech writ large it seems, so i'll concede that the data center stuff is more recent
i think two things can be true. people can enjoy the services they're using while at the same time resent the idea that they may be harmed by them (or their creators) in some way, be it via job losses or otherwise

@loganb i agree with you that data center pushback is not wholly "fuck the bros" and highly contingent on like, local realities (noise/construction/real estate etc) but i dont think they're two entirely unrelated issues

my position is there's a tension between actual use of these products — which is skyrocketing — and the ambivalence around the realities of bringing them to market at scale
